Today BIG Z celebrates 51 birthday!!
Zydrunas Ilgauskas was never the flashiest name in the league. But for the Cleveland Cavaliers, he was one of the most important pieces of an entire era.
During the LeBron James years, Ilgauskas’s impact often went beyond the box score. He was one of the league’s most effective screen-setters, consistently creating the space that allowed Cleveland’s offense to function at its highest level. A large part of LeBron James’ early success came from those unseen “screen assist” actions that never show up in traditional stats.
Defensively, he was more reliable than he’s often given credit for.
In the 2007 NBA Finals, Ilgauskas played a key role against Tim Duncan, helping limit him to 18 points per game on 44% shooting in a series where most of Cleveland’s roster struggled to contain him.
Across his career, the resume speaks for itself:
• 2× NBA All-Star
• Second all-time in Cavaliers scoring
• Second all-time in rebounds
• Franchise leader in blocks
• Jersey retired by the Cavaliers
His journey was defined by resilience, overcoming major foot injuries early in his career and still carving out a long, productive NBA run in Cleveland. He wasn’t built on highlights.
He was built on winning possessions that don’t always get remembered. And for Cavaliers fans, that mattered more than anything.

Lonzo Ball believes the Cavaliers would've gone further if they had kept him and Darius Garland together. 👀
According to Lonzo, moving on from both guards wasn't the right move for a team with championship aspirations.
"If you were trying to win a championship, I don't think that's the path you should've taken... I think we would've gone further."
It's easy to second-guess roster decisions in hindsight, but Lonzo clearly believes Cleveland gave up on a winning formula too soon.

Darius Garland has some thoughts... 🤔
