"Specific to the Rec Center: members, participants, and guests will only be required to wear a mask indoors while not actively participating in recreation activities." Please see the full campus mask announcement below: 👇
_____

Dear CSU Rec Center Members, Friends, and Guests:

In line with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and given that COVID-19 levels in Cuyahoga County are now rated “high,” Cleveland State University has announced an updated mask policy. Please read the following information in full as there is direction related specifically to the Rec Center.

With the rising number of COVID infections, CSU believes additional safety protocols are necessary to limit the spread of COVID-19 and help keep our campus community safe and healthy until conditions improve. Effective Wednesday, June 1, properly worn masks will be required inside indoor CSU facilities. Specific to the Rec Center: members, participants, and guests will only be required to wear a mask indoors while not actively participating in recreation activities.

We appreciate your cooperation in working together to keep our members, staff, and yourself healthy and safe!

HEADS-UP! CSU CAMPUS MASK MANDATE CHANGES
In line with new CDC guidelines and given that Cuyahoga County is currently rated as “medium risk,” and the county has ended the indoor mask mandate for its facilities, CSU will begin rolling back its campus mask requirements next week.

Effective Monday, March 7, masks will only be required in our classrooms and laboratories, where spaces are more confined and there are less opportunities for physical distancing. Masks will be recommended, but not required, in all other indoor spaces on campus, including offices, meeting rooms, recreational facilities, and common areas.

We fully recognize and respect that some of our members and patrons will choose to continue to wear a mask, especially those still advised to do so through CDC guidance. We ask everyone to do what is best for you while also respecting the choices of others.

As a reminder: vaccination plus a booster shot continues to offer the absolute best protection against serious illness, hospitalization or death from COVID-19. CSU will continue to monitor and act upon guidance from public health officials and the CDC. As always, we will share any updates or changes as they develop. Thank you!

With all the negativity swirling around in the world today, it's easy to get caught up in a negative mindset. But the good news is you can practice positivity - especially to ourselves! These 7 tips and reminders are just a few of the ways you can PROP YOURSELF UP! 😄

🙌 Practice positive self-talk.
Instead of being our own worst critic, how about we be our own biggest fan instead? Cheer yourself on, tell yourself you can do it, remind yourself how awesome you are – and do it often and until you believe it!

🙌 Don't beat yourself up.
Everyone falls off the wagon and suffers setbacks. This is normal and ok. Let yourself off the hook and just pick up where you left off. One treat, one meal, one day, one week won’t make or break your progress.

🙌 Celebrate the small victories, too.
Recognizing the small and incremental wins is important for your motivation, consistency, and mental resiliency. Every accomplishment, large and small, is worthy of a little celebration!

🙌 Failure is not really failure.
Sometimes, we miss the mark or fall a bit short of our intended goal. But failure isn’t really failure if you got something from the experience.

🙌 Fuel thyself.
Like a well-oiled machine, we can’t function at our highest potential without fueling ourselves properly. Avoid extreme eating tactics and fad diets, and stick to healthy nutrition habits like those outlined at MyPlate.gov or work with a licensed dietician for customized nutrition help.

🙌 Rest days are important.
Burnout is a very real thing. Both your mind and your body need time to rest and recover to strengthen and enhance themselves. It seems counterintuitive, but building breaks and days off into your routine will actually accelerate your progress.

🙌 Progress, not perfection.
Perfection is a subjective idea. It means something different to everyone and is therefore unachievable. So, shift your focus to continual personal progress and improvement and you just might be surprised how far you can go – and how much happier you’ll be!

Sometimes, it can be hard to keep up with a healthy lifestyle. Luckily, we’re here to help! 😄 We have 6 simple tips for you that can help you stay on-track - swipe to see! 👍

✅ Start slow.
You have to walk before you can run. Trying to do too much too soon can result in adverse effects like exhaustion, extreme soreness, and injury that will hinder rather than help you.

✅ Choose activities you enjoy.
Like anything, if you enjoy doing something you’re more likely to keep doing it. Create positive healthy experiences for yourself by choosing activities you find fun and satisfying.

✅ Use different measures to show progress.
Forget your focus on (and fear of) the scale! Progress can show is multiple ways and the scale is only one measure. Build a more complete picture by also tracking body fat %, strength gains, sleep quality, energy levels, or even how your clothes are fitting.

✅ Write it down or track it.
Keeping a workout or nutrition journal, or utilizing a tracking app, is one of the best and easiest ways to see your progress, make adjustments to maximize results, and motivate yourself!

✅ Build a support network.
Communities, chat groups, motivation apps, friends and family - they don’t even have to be workout buddies or teammates, as long as they support you with establishing your healthier lifestyle.

✅ Healthy habits are more fun with a friend.
Workout buddies can hold each other accountable, challenge and help each other, making healthy habits more enjoyable and more likely to stick.
