Fastpitch softball pitching instruction in Cleveland, Ohio

Do you know why we love these two younger pitchers in the video? We have time to develop them, and the sky is the limit for them. We can plan long-term. They are a delight.

There was a parent who wanted to fly across the country and have me work with his 17-year-old daughter because she was not being recruited, and
he wanted me to “fix” her in a weekend. I absolutely saw red flags. Why?

1-You are asking her to eliminate dozens of muscles that get in the way of performance, while substituting muscles that she should have been using all along. It is called muscle memory and older kids can be strangled by it. This is not fair to her.
2-I have no idea of her work ethic, thought processes, the parental relationship, and how to best get through to her, but he wanted her to be “fixed”, a word that I do not like.
3-What is the likely outcome of trying to learn an entirely new system during high pressure exposure tournaments and college camps?
4-Even if she understands how to use her body better for a fastball, it requires a lot of adjustments in every other pitch. That may take a little longer.
5-Because they are in a panic, because they want a total overhaul in a weekend, I cannot imagine the confusion the kid is feeling after buying into a certain approach for years and suddenly being told it was a bad idea.

Yes, we regularly make huge differences in older students. Most of them are fantastic, but we always wish that we could have started sooner and enjoyed the journey more. If you look at the huge number of D-1 commits on our social media, one theme emerges frequently. Most of them started young with us, they committed to the system, and we had time to do it right. You will find exceptions. In every one of those cases they say the same thing—they wish they had started years before, they would have been much further along in their journey, and there would have been so much less stress along the way.

The first time I met Keagan Rothrock I knew she was going to be very special.

As we did training events over the years, I saw that she continued the improvement, thanks to Certified Instructor, Jonathan Hon. So, it’s no surprise to find that she was named SEC Freshman of the Year. Congratulations, Keagan.

Ashland County Athlete of the Week Poll: April 1-6 04/08/2024

Hey everyone!! Vote for Loudenville HS Pitcher Natalee Buzzard for Player of the Week!! She earned this honor throwing a no hitter last week!! The Tincher Pitching family is so proud of your hard work!!!

Ashland County Athlete of the Week Poll: April 1-6 The polls are open to vote for the Ashland County Athlete of the Week.

One of the things we specifically train is “situational pitching”. Let’s look at the curve. If Emma is ahead in the count, she will want to locate it differently from when she is behind, or even on a full count. Some pitchers actually have more difficulty throwing it “off the plate”. If you have an aggressive hitter, and she is prone to chase, see how far she will go. Why give her anything that would allow solid contact? In the video, you see three slightly different curves for three slightly different situations.

Every pitch should be situational. it should be based on the count, the umpire’s zone, whether there are runners on base, the aggressiveness of the hitter, and even the need to hurry and get your team up to bat because you are on a time limit. Pitching is far more than throwing balls and strikes, far more than pretty form, and more than just throwing heat. Those are the easy parts. Taking those tools and creating a winner, based on your unique advantages and strengths, that is what takes you to the next level.

We came to work, play, challenge,  learn, and share.  It was a great weekend at our northeast Regional Instructor Convention in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Certified instructors gathered from several states and we capped the weekend with some hands-on learning. Thanks, everyone, for a wonderful weekend.

We Train Professionals to Train Champions, and enjoy watching both succeed.

We are excited for another of our students who found her D1 offer fairly close to home. Congratulations to Bel Varadi, class of 2024, from Northwest Guilford High in Greensboro.

Bel is headed to Appalachian State University in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. This is a school with a rich tradition in athletics.

Bel works with one of our Certified Instructors, Julia Emery, near Greensboro. Julia says, "Bel is an extremely hard worker who knew what she wanted and went after it. She throws great movement and will be an asset to the Mountaineers. Extremely proud of this young lady and can't wait to see her play!"

We are proud of the work that Bel and Julia have done to make this dream a reality.
