THE SPORTS BUZZ ON THE AIR hosts Brett Voss and Steve Conrad take a look at the third week of the 2026 Texas high school football season in Bosque County and the Class 3A’s third-ranked Clifton Lady Cubs volleyball team looking ahead to District 18-3A challenge.

First, the segment takes a look at the shorthanded Kopperl Eagles surviving against winless Lingleville while the other five Bosque County six-man football teams suffered defeats. (Starts at 1:00)

Then, the focus turns to the Class 3A Clifton Cubs going undefeated in non-district games for the first time since 2018, while the Crawford Pirates knocked the Valley Mills Eagles from the undefeated ranks under the Friday night lights. (Starts at 3:50)

Clifton, Kopperl remain undefeated, but Bosque County squads suffer tough times during Week 3 of the 2026 Texas high school football under Friday night lights

Here are Thursday and Friday’s final scores for the opening weekend of the Class 3A, 2A and 1A Texas high school football action in Bosque County.

With two Bosque County squads remaining undefeated, THE SPORTS BUZZ On The Air features the Class 3A, Division II Clifton Cubs using the big play to post an impressive 35-19 road victory over the Italy Gladiators Friday night at Gladiator Coliseum in THE SPORTS BUZZ Game of the Week.

And Class 1A, Division II six-man football, the Kopperl Eagles remained undefeated by edging the Lingleville Cardinals, 20-19, Friday night at Eagle Field.

THE SPORTS BUZZ ON THE AIR talks to Clifton football head coach Brent Finney, along with offensive player of the game sophomore quarterback Carter Ritz and defensive player of the game senior middle linebacker Rowdy Bishop after the Class 3A, Division II Cubs rallied in the second half to overcome the Class 3A, DI West Trojans 28-20 victory Friday night at Cub Stadium for THE SPORTS BUZZ Game Of The Week, sponsored by Clifton Feed & Service Center.
Scoring 21 unanswered points, Cub senior Jackson Ritz scooped up a fumble and raced 38 yards for a touchdown, then followed that up by taking a pass from sophomore quarterback Carter Ritz and sprinting 79 yards down the sideline for the scoring strike.
Compiling 329 yards of total offense, Carter Ritz completed 14 of 23 passes for 213 yard and two scoring strikes to overcome two early interceptions. Jackson Ritz hauled in six passes for 97 yards and two scores while rushing for a team-high 44 yards on nine carries.

On location in Clifton and Kopperl, THE SPORTS BUZZ On The Air features the Class 3A, Division II Clifton Cubs coming from behind in the fourth quarter to overcome the Class 3A, DI West Trojans 28-20 Friday night at Cub Stadium in THE SPORTS BUZZ Game of the Week.

And Class 1A, Division II six-man football, the Kopperl Eagles remained undefeated with an overwhelming 56-8 victory over the Gholson Wildcats Friday night at Eagle Field, while the Morgan Eagles won their second straight to open the 2026 Texas high school football season by blanking the Bynum Bulldogs, 45-0, Friday night at John Bryant Field.

THE SPORTS BUZZ ON THE AIR hosts Brett Voss and Steve Conrad take a look at the first week of the 2026 Texas high school football season and the Class 3A’s fourth-ranked Clifton Lady Cubs volleyball team winning the annual Clifton Tournament last weekend.

First, the segment takes a look at all three Bosque County 11-man football teams – the Clifton Cubs, the Meridian Yellowjackets and the Valley Mills Eagles – winning on opening weekend for the first time in more than a decade under the Friday night lights.

In the process, The Sports Buzz talks to Clifton football head coach Brent Finney, Cub seniors Jackson Ritz and Alijah Calderon, as well as Meridian football head coach Jim Kerbow.

Class 3A Track & Field State Meet Preview
Clifton Lady Cubs qualify three for individual events at state

Brett Voss' THE SPORTS BUZZ talks to Clifton girls track head coach Ryan Hunt, along with three Lady Cub state qualifiers – senior Alexa Lane in pole vault, junior Brystel Wise in high jump and sophomore Taliyha Davenport in triple jump – before heading to the Class 3A Track & Field State Meet May 14-16 at the Mike A Myers Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin for THE SPORTS BUZZ On The Air Show, sponsored by Clifton Feed and Service Center, Inc.

Qualifying for her fourth straight trip to state, Lane sprung over 11-00 to claim the silver medal in pole vault behind regional champion Kyla Shoppach of West (12-01.25) at the Class 3A, Region III Championships May 2 at the Huntsville ISD Stadium and Sports Complex.

Advancing to the state meet for the second time, Davenport soared to a silver medal in triple jump with a leap of 37-07, just behind gold medalist Londyn Marshall of New Waverly (38-01).
And earning her first appearance at state, Wise cleared 5-03 in high jump to capture the silver medal.

District 5-3A, DII: CLIFTON Cubs 56, DUBLIN Lions 7

THE SPORTS BUZZ ON THE AIR talks to Clifton football head coach Brent Finney, along with co-players of the game senior running back Judd New and junior linebacker Jose Acros after the Cubs survived back-to-back road trips to run all over the Dublin Lions on their way to a dominating 56-7 victory in a key District 5-3A, DII clash last Friday night at Bob and Norma Cervetto Stadium for THE SPORTS BUZZ Game Of The Week, sponsored by Clifton Feed and Service Center, Inc.

After clinching their fourth straight trip to the Class 3A, Division II postseason in convincing fashion, the Clifton Cubs (3-1 in district, 7-2 overall) will battle for a share of their first district championship since 2019 when they host the Brady Bulldogs (4-0, 7-2) at 7 p.m. Friday on Senior Night at Cub Stadium.

Featuring a balanced attack against Dublin, Clifton piled up a season-high 493 yards of total offense as New found his way into the endzone four times while rushing for 150 yards and catching three passes for 44 yards. On the ground, the Cubs piled up a season-high 312 yards rushing on 44 carries.

While the defense shut out Dublin for more than three quarters and came up with five turnovers, junior linebacker Jose Arcos collected a game-high 17 tackles, more than any Cub all season long.
