For our final introduction, we have our amazing studio owner, Miss Suzy!

1) What does your dance background consist of? (where did you grow up dancing, companies you may have been part of, etc.)
I grew up dancing at Becky Schneberger’s Dance studio and have also taken class at MN Ballet. I competed as a teen and also found my true passion as a teacher and choreographer during my high school years. I began Shooting Stars Dance in 1999 teaching in various schools throughout the area. In 2013 I purchased Becky’s Dance when she retired and incorporated those students into our SSD family. I have done extensive continuing education in early childhood development and competitive dance, working with many judges to learn the ins and outs of the competition world. I am Acrobatic Arts Certified, Alixa Flexibility Certified, Discover Dance Certified, have been certified as a personal trainer along with various other certificates and trainings over the years.

2) What do you like to do in your free time?
Free time? I’m a dance studio owner, I don’t get free time! 😜 But when I do I like to spend it in the sunshine and with my family.

3) What’s your favorite food?
Tacos

4) What’s your favorite drink?
An Americano, no flavors, sometimes a splash of almond milk

5) What’s your favorite place you’ve ever been?
Costa Rica

6) A word of advice for our dancers
The most important thing you can ever get out of dancing is not a score or a trophy. It is the lessons you learn by failing and trying again, the relationships you build with your classmates, the work ethic you discover in class and the pride you have in your accomplishments. The connections you make with classmates and teachers will be some of the most important of your life.

1) What does your dance background consist of? (where did you grow up dancing, companies you may have been part of, etc.
I grew up going to Becky’s Dance from the ages of 2 through 18. I went to MSU-Mankato where I minored in dance for 1 year. I then moved back home and joined some studios in Duluth for joining the Duluth Playhouse. I was cast in 5 plays including White Christmas; Chicago; Equus, Chorus Line; and Singing in the Rain.

2) What do you like to do in your free time?
I have 2 boys ages 11 and 13 so I am very busy with sports. I also enjoy gardening and movies.

3) What’s your favorite food?
Italian food

4) What’s your favorite drink?
Coffee. Right now I’m obsessed with the pistachio latte from the Warming House. Or Mt Dew zero sugar or any sparkling water. I also probably drink 80-100oz of water per day.

5) What’s your favorite place you’ve ever been?
I’ve gone to Universal Studios in Florida several times and love being there

6) A word of advice for our dancers
Carry yourself with confidence; point your toes, and love what you do 🧑🏼‍🩰

Next up we have Miss Bella!

1. What does your dance background consist of?

I’ve been dancing for 13+ years! I started dancing at age 4 and spent my first five years at SSD. I then moved away and continued dancing at Dreams Come True in Grand Rapids, where I danced for seven years. I moved back for my senior year and finished my competitive dance journey with SSD. Along the way, I’ve also had the opportunity to attend different trainings and conventions, with AcroDance FLIGHT being one of my favorites!

2. What do you like to do in your free time?

If I’m not at the studio, you can probably find me reading a cheesy romance novel, baking something, or hanging out with my chickens. Basically, I have the hobbies of a grandma and I’m not mad about it.

3. What’s your favorite food?
Pretty much ANY kind of potato. French fries? Yes. Mashed potatoes? Absolutely. If it’s a potato, I’m probably eating it. 🥔

4. What’s your favorite drink?

I love all kinds of drinks, but Red Bull is definitely top tier! Any other energy drink is a close second. I genuinely don’t know how I’d survive a day without caffeine.

5. What’s your favorite place you’ve ever been?

Probably Mexico! I’ve been three times and have gotten to see so many different parts, from Baja California all the way down to Oaxaca. The mountains in southern Mexico are absolutely beautiful and definitely one of my favorite places I’ve ever seen!

6. What’s one piece of advice you have for our dancers?

Always lead with kindness, especially toward the younger dancers around you. Remember that every dancer starts somewhere, and the little ones looking up to you may someday be exactly where you are now. Be the person you would have wanted to look up to—encourage them, cheer them on, and make them feel like they belong.

During my school years at SSD, I attended several intensives and conventions at various competitions as well as studying under the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus, under Miss Suzy! Throughout my middle and high school years, I took several summer intensives at Minnesota Ballet in Duluth. During my senior year of high school, I attended Raise the Barre, a ballet studio in west Duluth where I took weekend classes in addition to my studio classes here at SSD. After high school, I received my Associates degree at Mankato State University where I studied modern, ballet, tap, and traditional jazz techniques under Daniel Stark. This season will be my eighth year teaching dance!
