Happy 4th of July, Clovis! Don't miss the celebration tonight at Lamonica Stadium!
07/02/2026
Happy Birthday to a Clovis legend! Did you know Ken Curtis lived in the Clovis area? It's true!
The late actor and singer is best known for his long-running role as Festus Haggen on the CBS western television series ‘Gunsmoke’ from 1964-1975, and if he were still with us, he’d be 110 years old today! Born on July 2, 1916, Curtis grew up in Colorado, and he and his wife moved to the Clovis area in 1980. He was active in the community, and he even appeared in the 1991 Clovis Rodeo the day before he died. His legacy lives on in the form of a steel and concrete statue in Old Town Clovis, sculpted by local artist Samantha Cowen and donated to the City in 1992.
The statue is located on the west side of Pollasky Avenue between Fourth and Fifth Streets. Next time you’re in Old Town, be sure to pay a visit to this Clovis legend!

The Valley’s premiere 4th of July firework show is back and bigger than ever before in celebration of America 250! Join the Kiwanis Club of Clovis CA on Saturday, July 4th for Freedom Fest 2026 at Lamonica Stadium, located on the campus of Clovis High School on Barstow between Fowler and Armstrong Avenues.
New this year in honor of America 250, the event will include a Black Hawk flyover, a skydiving parachute performance featuring the American flag, and a variety of classic Americana activities – from a pie-eating contest to three-legged races and more. All of this, of course, leads up to the remarkable firework show, set to be the longest show ever held in the event's decades-long history. Don’t miss the festivities as we celebrate our independence!
The gates open at 5 PM, and fireworks begin at dusk. Tickets are just $5, and children 5 years old and younger are free. Tickets may be purchased at the stadium starting at 9 AM on July 4.
For more information, please visit cloviskiwanis.com/freedom-fest
We hope to see you there!
