In training, don't ask just do.

There are times in training that individuals may stray off the "flow" of training in flow drills. They may go about and make their own way. They may pose the "what if" scenario questions.

That is fine. A teacher should like that zeal and curiosity. A teacher should encourage his/her students to explore those possibilities. In real combat, one should be practical, effective and expedient in their methods to end the conflict decisively.

But in flow drills we follow a certain path, a level of compliance, a set response to a set scenario. By following a set of rules for the flow, practitioners can continue that flow uninterrupted and develop split-second reactions. Plus, we spend less time talking and more time honing our skills which is the primary purpose of physical training.

If the only strikes you are able to do are #1 and #2, then make sure those are the best #1 and #2 strikes you're capable of doing.
