Nutrition is the base of the CrossFit pyramid. Our nutrition guidance starts simply: âEat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar.â In practice, that means prioritizing whole foods and limiting added sugar.
I picked up a few things at Costco today and wanted to share how they fit into that approach. You can find these foods at almost any grocery storeâthe goal is to have options on hand that support your training, recovery, and everyday energy.
đ„Ł Greek yogurt: An easy protein option. Look for plain varieties with little or no added sugar.
đ„ Avocados: Unsaturated fats and fiber to help make meals satisfying.
đ„© Steak: Protein to support muscle repair and recovery.
đ« Frozen blueberries: A convenient way to add fruit, fiber, and variety to your plate.
You wonât see vegetables in these pictures because I donât buy mine at Costcoâbut theyâre a big part of the foundation, too.
When choosing carbohydrates, we want to emphasize fiber-rich, lower-glycemic options. Pairing them with protein and fat can help support steadier energy and keep us satisfied between meals. The overall meal and portion sizes matter, too.
Having these basics in the fridge and freezer makes putting a meal together easier, especially on busy days. Greek yogurt with blueberries or steak with vegetables and avocado are simple places to start.
Start with your next grocery trip. Pick a few foods you enjoy and can consistently build meals around.
