Throwback to warmer days last month! Outdoor School students learn to not only paddle and read water. They load and rig boats, plan logistics, and perform safety talks.
Oh, and sometimes we have fun.

October is for climbing!
Getting out and after it today. The support students have for each other is what makes this so fun!

Not a bad classroom for some Mary Oliver poetry today.

Learning outside is our jam.
Yesterday CHS Outdoor School headed up Chief Joseph Highway to "think like a mountain" and explore biomes, habitats, weather, and even a bear den on our way up to over 8000 ft.

It's fall 2025 and Cody Outdoor School is back at it! We just finished up over a month on the water. Student guides learned so much about responsibility, water hydraulics, local science, and our Shoshone River!
Keep checking in for throwbacks, updates, and what we're up to!

The most exciting "doing science" day was seeing how many eggs hatched/counting success rates of Alvin in our three river locations.
We counted, collected data, noted siltation, and hypothesized about brown trout success rates. 🙌 🎣

How lucky are we to have the support and expertise of our local scientific community?
(That's a rhetorical question, but we feel like it deserves an answer--
we are SO PHENOMENALLY LUCKY!)
On Friday, Mr. Tony Mong, big game biologist from , came and shared his expertise on game herds, migration routes, CWD, and the amazing wild places in our back yard. Thank you Tony!

Mr. Olenik calls it "doing real science"--and we did!
In November, our class placed eyed brown trout eggs in 3 locations in the Shoshone River watershed.
One of the coolest days we've had "doing real science" in our classroom without walls!
Special thanks to Sam Hochhalter and the amazing fish biologist crew who helped us and taught us so much!

We've been busy this month.....
We spent several days on the river and scouted the river for egg placement to work with Wyoming Game and Fish!

The weather's cooling off, and we're still planning adventures in our amazing backyard.
Today's post is a throwback to last week when it was a tad warmer--we headed up the canyon to boulder, write, read, and do science outside.

Where were we last week?
Probably practicing problems & picking routes & picking plants & practicing gratitude for particularly perfect fall weather!
