Every day is a challenge.

Some days are more challenging than others. Some days meet you where you’re at. Some days take you further than you thought you could go.

And then…there are some days that just kick your ass.

Today is one of those days. 😂

For transparency, I compete. I coach. I work. And I’m human.

Even after a long vacation—one that included an average of 6 miles of hiking every day with roughly 1,100 feet of elevation gain per day—I came home tired. And getting back into the normal training rhythm has been harder than I expected.

That’s okay.

I know I’ll get back to form. More importantly, I absolutely trust my training.

As a coach, I’m constantly reminding my athletes to listen to their bodies, believe in the process, and trust their training. Today, I had to remind myself of the same thing.

We all have less-than-desirable days. Sometimes they’re brought on by physical stress. Sometimes by human emotion. And sometimes there’s no complicated explanation at all…

“I’m just tired.”

That’s part of this journey.

So today, I’m going to live in the moment, give myself some grace, and move forward.

Tomorrow is another day.

Listen to your body. Believe your coach. Trust your training.

And when the day kicks your ass…get up, dust yourself off, and keep moving forward.

Last weekend was another great one for the Ignite Multisport crew! 🔥🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Matthew Kim - He took on USAT Nationals and absolutely delivered — PR’ing the course by 10 minutes compared to last year! 👏

What makes this especially rewarding as a coach is seeing the consistency. Season after season, he continues to improve, put in the work, and raise his level. That kind of progress doesn’t happen by accident. Proud of the work he’s putting in!

Buck Briley - This guy just recently joined the Ignite Multisport roster, and while I wasn’t his coach yet for the Coeur d’Alene Triathlon, he went out and completed the Olympic-distance race — only his second triathlon ever! 💪

I’m excited to see what’s ahead for him. There’s a lot of potential here, and I have a feeling we’re going to see some big improvements in the seasons to come!

This is exactly why I love coaching — helping athletes wherever they are in their journey and watching them discover what they’re capable of.

🔥 Ignite Multisport has room for a few more athletes! If you’re thinking about getting into triathlon, improving your running, preparing for your next race, or simply want a structured plan and a coach in your corner, I’d really appreciate the opportunity to work with you.

What a weekend for Ignite Multisport! 🏊🚴🏃

The weekend kicked off with the 1.76-mile Long Bridge Swim in Sandpoint, Idaho—one of my favorite local events each year. What makes this swim so special isn’t just the beautiful setting, but the incredible spectator experience. Family and friends can walk the entire length of the swim, cheering their swimmers on from start to finish.

Having my wife, Saprina, there encouraging me every stroke of the way made the experience even more meaningful. For me, this event has never been about racing anyone else. It’s about supporting a long-standing local tradition, getting in a healthy open-water swim, and seeing if I can improve on last year’s time. Mission accomplished—I was able to beat last year’s swim time!

Then, less than 24 hours later, we were both back at the starting line for the Post Falls Sprint Triathlon—another outstanding local race with an amazing community atmosphere.

It was a great day for both of us:
🥇 I was fortunate to win my age group and finish 11th overall.
🥈 Saprina had a fantastic race, finishing 2nd in her age group.

A huge thank you to my daughter, Halli, and her boyfriend, Aaron, for coming out to cheer us on. Having family support at races makes every finish line even more rewarding.

Today is a well-earned recovery day… well, sort of. 😄 After an incredible weekend of racing, it’s right back to work with an hour on the bike followed by an hour training run. Consistency is what builds fitness, and the journey toward the next starting line continues.

Weekends like this are a reminder of why I love this sport. It’s about community, family, challenging yourself, celebrating local events, and enjoying the process every step of the way.

From day one of Ignite Multisport, Scott and Gina Anderson have been all in.

They’ve been with me since the very beginning of my coaching journey, and if there’s one thing that defines them, it’s consistency. They show up. They do the work. They support each other. And when race day comes, they bring their best…every single time.

This past weekend at the Oak Island Full Marathon Ultra Detour was no exception. Scott and Gina both raced tough and smart, earning 1st and 2nd in their respective age groups and finishing near the top overall. That kind of result isn’t luck…it’s the product of steady training, commitment, and years of stacking good days together.

🧠 Big Picture Coaching Takeaway

Today is about skill under stress.
Anyone can move well when fresh. Champions move well when tired.

Respect the drills. Respect the process. That’s how durable speed is built.

Ironman 70.3 in the Tri-Cities delivered something unique last year and 2025 was no exception! Thank you so much to all the volunteers, and my family and friends that came to cheer all of on! I was dialed in, I lined up ready to execute the same principles I coach—race consistent, race smart, and be ready for whatever the day brings.

The Columbia River obviously gave us a current-assisted swim, which made for fast splits across the board. The challenge was discipline—keeping my strokes long and efficient instead of burning unnecessary matches. I came out of the water exactly where I wanted to be: fresh and set up for the bike.

The bike course threw us a slight curveball this year that extended the ride to about 56.6 miles. I do think the consensus among athletes was that the changes were positive—smoother flow, a great layout, and a touch more rhythm to the effort. I settled into my power numbers, a little lower than anticipated (wind was the biggest culprit). I stayed consistent and patient, knowing that the extra distance meant sticking to my plan mattered even more!

This is where my day came alive. I locked into a strong pace early and carried it through, feeling smooth and in control. My legs responded, my strategy held, and I was able to push when it mattered most. I crossed the line before the big rain moved in—finishing on a high note and with the satisfaction of executing one of my strongest runs this season!

My takeaway…every race is a chance to learn and reinforce what works for YOU! This one was about patience, discipline, consistency, and letting my preparation shine. Nothing flashy—just the fundamentals, done well.

As we shift into the maintenance season, now’s the time to put in the work that sets up big breakthroughs later. If you’re an athlete ready to ignite your training and build toward your own strong finish lines, I’d love to help.
