This is extremely close to where the red winged blackbirds are nesting. I was astonished they let me drift right up against the thicket without protesting at all. Glassy, peaceful paddle.

I get to see so much of the hidden lives of wildlife when I paddle board. I get to places you can't on foot and places so shallow you ditch the fins.
Sorry for the blur, I was on my paddleboard on moving water and did my best.

When Car d'Alene did its annual descent-upon-and-take-over of our neighborhood, this neighborhood crow was either confused or distressed. He got right in the road where the cars were parked waiting the go ahead to start the cruise and marched around squawking at all the metal monsters revving their engines. I shoo'd him onto the grass and out of danger. His response was to fly onto the roof of Cecil's house and to continue expressing his displeasure.
