The world of golf is a little dimmer since Monday. Today we want to remember and honor Dan Drennan, a man whose impact on golf in Branch County is hard to measure and impossible to forget.

Dan was a true professional in the turf management world. His knowledge, patience, and pride in his work helped turn around and transform The Coldwater Golf Course. He understood the game from the ground up—literally—and he had a gift for seeing not just what a golf course was, but what it could become.

To so many people, Dan was more than a superintendent. He was the “lawn psychologist” for anyone brave enough to listen to not only the story, but the science when asking a question about grass, greens, weeds, drainage, soil, or why their yard just would not cooperate. He always seemed to have an answer, a story, and just enough humor to make you feel like maybe your lawn still had hope.

Dan was also an ambassador for the game of golf in Coldwater and throughout the surrounding area. His fingerprints are on so many of the great golf facilities and memories in our community. He was a giant in the Branch County golf world, the consummate professional, and someone whose influence will continue to be felt for years to come.

At The Coldwater Golf Course, we are especially fortunate that Dan’s legacy continues through his son-in-law, Aaron Stevens, our Head of Operations and Superintendent. Aaron carries forward not only Dan’s knowledge and passion for the course, but also the care, pride, and steady leadership Dan brought to everything he touched.

Our hearts are with Dan’s wife, Marcia, and his children Steven, Deena, Amanda, and Joe, along with the entire Drennan family.

Dan was a faithful leader, mentor, craftsman, turf expert, and a friend to so many. But as great as he was in his profession, as a husband, and father - the job he was best at—and the one he loved most in the world—was being Grandpa to his grandchildren.

Thank you, Dan, for what you gave to this course, this community, this game, and all of us who were lucky enough to know you. Your legacy will live on every time someone walks these fairways, rolls a putt across a green you helped shape, or stops to ask, “What would Dan do?”
