Just finished up in New York at the IBJJF Open. Four matches. Two in the weight class, and two in the open. Ended three of the matches, and one went to decision, but I also able fix a 50/50 tactical error from the Virginia Open.

It’s always great to test myself at these events. And all the matches were against people I had never faced before.

Been mostly inactive on here for a while. That is changing.

I rebuilt kennethbrownbjj.com from scratch and I am going to start using it the way I always meant to. YouTube is where the videos live. The site is where I go deeper into the principles behind them.

First two posts are up. And the last one is on the most popular video I ever created.

The three triggers that determine whether the loop choke succeeds or fails.

If you train in the gi, go read it and tell me what you think.

The kneecut pass isn't beating your technique. It's beating your structure.

When the knee cuts through, your frame is working as a single point of resistance against a pass specifically designed to collapse it. That's why it keeps working, even when you're doing everything else right.

The fix isn't a new position. It's a concept called self framing.

When the kneecut starts developing, you use your arm to reinforce your leg. One structural adjustment creates a second layer of resistance your opponent never planned for. The pass meets something it cannot collapse.

New video just dropped where I break down exactly how this works, why it works, and how to apply it in real time.

Most people who attempt the loop choke have a grip. Fewer have a grip in the right place. Even fewer understand why head position is the part that actually makes or breaks the finish.

So I put together a more in-depth written breakdown of my most popular video on the topic. It breaks down the three things that determine whether this choke works or falls apart.

If you have been working on this one, give it a read and let me know what questions come up.

The loop choke is a positional trap, not a power move. Here is a full breakdown of the grip, the finish, and the most common problems beginners run into.
