Stuck in quarter guard? Don’t pass. Kneebar them instead with this technique I learned from Master Jean Jacques Machado. Happy hunting!

Did you know our Bedford Academy is strictly a no gi academy for adults and that we have two of the very best no gi coaches in DFW teaching at our academy?

Professor Damion Taylor is a Jiu Jitsu black belt with years of teaching and competition experience. He has a hard nosed submission focused brand of no gi Jiu Jitsu that is balanced with an easygoing and enjoyable teaching style that brings out the best in his students.

Coach Chauncey Nu’usolia is a 10th Planet black belt and he received his black belt directly from Eddie Bravo, the creator of the 10th Planet No Gi System. Coach Chauncey embodies the 10th Planet methodology that utilizes unorthodox positions and entries into submissions.

This weekend was really special. I listened to several (legendary) black belts share stories about training with Master Jean Jacques Machado for an astonishing 30 plus years. That’s 30 years plus under the same flag and Jiu Jitsu Master.

I have been a Jiu Jitsu school owner for 16 years. I have come to realize that the real magic of Jiu Jitsu is that Jiu Jitsu has the ability to bring people together. And while Jiu Jitsu can bring people to the table, the real day to day work of a Jiu Jitsu instructor is not only to teach Jiu Jitsu, but to find a way keep their students at that table together.

Cruz Sandoval started training with me 12 years ago in California. We moved to Texas 5 years ago ending our day to day contact. However the choice to remain connected as student and teacher is not limited to distance or proximity. The relationship between teacher and student has the potential of being boundless.

Cruz is a freshman student at UC Santa Barbara now. However, this weekend we were on the mat again with our Jiu Jitsu master. I am going to make every effort to keep Cruz connected to the Jean Jacques Machado Association. I am going to do what I can to keep him at the table.

In 18 years, I hope Cruz will speak fondly about his 30 years of training with me and Master Jean Jacques. But we will never get to 30 years if I don’t do my part in keeping him (and all my students) at the table.

There is nothing like our teacher, our team and our association. ❤️❤️❤️

These past four days at our annual Jean Jacques Machado Association camp have filled my heart with gratitude.

Listening to my first generation of black belts share how Jiu-Jitsu shaped their lives reminded me why I teach. Some remembered words I spoke years ago conversations I never knew had become turning points in their lives.

As a teacher, there is no greater reward than seeing your students carry the lessons beyond the mats, finding strength, purpose, and belief in themselves.

They are no longer simply learning Jiu-Jitsu. They are living it. And now, through their own example, they are helping others do the same.

From Texas with love! JJM DFW came out strong during the 2026 Jean Jacques Machado Association Camp. My hope is to double the amount of attendees for next year’s camp.

JJM DFW is proud and honored to represent Master Jean Jacques Machado in Texas!

Farouk Khan and Francisco Fraga are JJM DFW’s first black belts. They mark a a new chapter and the genesis of Jean Jacques Machado Jiu Jitsu’s presence and growth in the great state of Texas.

They are great men and even better friends. It was my honor to present them with their black belt certificates in the presence of Master Jean Jacques Machado, Professor Jay Zeballos and the rest of the Jean Jacques Machado Association Global Team.
