Brenda Andrews & Pale Face Kachina Top the Scores in the Prime Time Rookie [1]
Pale Face Kachina was the first horse Brenda Andrews has bred and raised; therefore, she couldn’t have been happier with her Prime Time Rookie [1] Championship and a tie for reserve in the Level 2. Pale Face Kachina is a 6-year-old gelding by Pale Face Dunnit out of Whiz N Kachina. They scored a 70 in the Ancillary Arena at the Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore.
She remembered visiting the 24-hour-old c**t and the breeder telling her that he just follows his mom. “Mom goes this way, and he goes that way!” she laughed. “They said, ‘Well, that never happens!’ He’s always been a free-thinker. Then, the first time they let him out, he ran down and made a sliding stop, so we were sure he was bred for reining.”
She also recalled the breeder asking to geld him at 4 months because he was such a handful, and she refused. “He matured into the best horse ever. Any Non Pro would love to have him. He takes care of me in the pen; if I happen to tip the wrong way, he’ll still change,” she detailed.
“I was a little nervous about Pattern 11, because you have to remember to trot in and then you will have to do a fast change to a small slow; so instead of paying attention to the horse as much, I kept thinking about the pattern,” Andrews admitted. “My horse did really well. He’s the best horse.”
Andrews plans to show him in some of the Rookie events held during the NRHA Futurity in Oklahoma City next.
She thanked her trainer, Stefano Calcagnini, her daughter, who shows with her, and the rest of her family.
