Park visitors using the swimming area weren’t the only ones catching rays this past weekend. This male Eastern Collared Lizard was basking on a rock by our fishing pier. Lizards are ectothermic meaning they rely on the environment to regulate their body temperature. A fun fact about Eastern Collared Lizards is when threatened they can run on their hind legs up to 16 MILES PER HOUR!
