As we commemorate Women’s History Month, USTA Colorado is highlighting members of the Colorado tennis community who have made significant contributions to our sport.

To close out Women’s History Month we are highlighting longtime volunteer and advocate, Karen Schott.

Karen is the Director of Racquet Sports at The Broadmoor Hotel, where she has been a pioneer as one of the few women to run an internationally recognized racquet program. She began her career at The Broadmoor in 1994 as a tennis teaching professional, working for International Tennis Hall of Famer Dennis Ralston. In 2005, she succeeded Ralston as Director of Tennis.

The Broadmoor is the world’s longest-running consecutive Forbes Five-Star and Double Five-Diamond Resort and rated as one of the Top 20 tennis resorts in the country by Tennis Magazine for over 20 years. Beyond directing The Broadmoor’s racquets program, she actively contributes to the sport through leadership roles as Vice President of the RSPA Intermountain Division, and as a member of the USTA Colorado District Board of Directors and several USTA Colorado committees.

A former top junior player in Colorado and the USTA Intermountain Section, Schott was also captain of her University of Denver tennis team.

The 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Family Paddle Battle at The Broadmoor! This sibling duo of Jack and Tea Houstoun topped the field of sixteen family teams in a tournament that drew ages from 8 to 80! Congratulations!
