So we have a buddy who did this ride last year. Say's he would do it again in a heartbeat, but wants better tracks up the Baja Peninsula. Which we have. Meet in Bisbee. Ride down to Cooper Canyon and spend 4 days riding into and exploring the Canyon. With a chase Van. and trailer.

Ride to Mazatlan and catch the overnight Ferry to La Paz. Ride up the east coast of the Peninsula in 4 days from La Paz to Calexico. Ride a day back to Bisbee. 14 days total.

So this Sofa King Bueno Adventure Ride concept the last 2 weeks in October could be epic. The basic idea is to ride from Bisbee, AZ to Copper Canyon. Then go to Mazatlan, and take the Ferry across the sea of Cortez to La Paz and ride up the Baja Peninsula. 14 days.

Say 'Sofa King' to yourself until you get it. 'Bueno' means good.

What would you say to a little ride down to Copper Canyon, then take the Ferry across to La Paz and ride up the Baja Peninsula ?

Copper Canyon in Mexico is a beautiful massive expanse of natural wonder, similar to the widely known Grand Canyon in the U.S. In this post, we explore a bit of both destinations as to why Copper Canyon might just be the superior experience!

Copper Canyon is in the southwest of the state of Chihuahua—Mexico’s largest state—in the Tarahumara mountain chain. The entire Copper Canyon region occupies an area of 25,000 sq miles, which is almost one third of the whole state of Chihuahua. The Copper Canyon System is much greater than the area of 1,902 sq. miles. corresponding to the Grand Canyon.

The Grand Canyon receives around 4.5 million visitors a year. In order to get a hotel nearby you usually need to make a reservation months in advance.

In contrast, in 2019, Mexican Authorities were hoping to receive 130 thousand visitors. Hotels around Copper Canyon don’t tend to be full.

The Grand Canyon also has a difference in altitude of around 4,900 ft. Copper Canyon has a difference in altitude of 5,900 ft. You will have more changes in weather in Copper Canyon than in the Grand Canyon.

You can find the local indigenous tribes, known as the Rarámuri, from whom you can buy many different handcrafts to take home as beautiful and unique souvenirs.

The Grand Canyon National Park doesn’t have any towns in or around it. Williams, Freedonia, and Flagstaff are cool towns, but they’re on the way to it.

Copper Canyon is a group of six distinct canyons in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range in the southwestern part of the state of Chihuahua in northwestern Mexico, that is 25,000 sq mi in size.

Copper Canyon is 4 times larger than the Grand Canyon.

The Alpine climate of the mountainous regions of Copper Canyon has moderate temperatures from October to November and March to April. The bottom of the canyons are humid and warm and remain that way year round.
During the warmest months, April, May, June, drought is a chronic problem with little rainfall until July when the rainy season begins
