Tomorrow is the day! Today we are going to be discussing a very significant proposed change to the Title IX process:

Assumed Innocence of Perpetrators: This change would mean that the school would operate from the belief that the accused is not responsible or “innocent” and in a Title IX investigation and the victim would have to present clear and convincing evidence to the contrary. This would be a change from the current policy which puts both parties on an equal playing field with no assumed innocence.

3 days left! Today we will be discussing the proposed change to Title IX involving mandatory reporting:
Reduction of Mandatory Reporters: Instead of all employees of an institution being required to be mandatory reporters (required to report to the IX coordinator when they have heard of or seen s*xual harassment or assault) a small group of school employees would be the only people responsible which would decrease the amount of reports immensely.

Four days to go! As promised another proposed Title IX change, and a very significant one for our campus and all other schools of any kind.
Restriction to Academic Campus: This change to the Title IX would mean that any assault or harassment that occurred “off academic campus” would not and actually could not be investigated under Title IX. Particularly for CC campus, this would be horrific since this would include all events hosted at off campus houses, where the majority of assaults occur. In fact with national statistics, only 8% of reported assaults occur on academic campuses, which would mean the vast majority of assaults could not be investigated under the new Title IX rules.

Five days until Classy Christmas! As excited as we are to dance with you this Friday we also want to use this week to talk about the proposed Title IX changes and what they could mean for our campus. We will be highlighting five important changes Betsy DeVos has proposed and how we can all help to oppose them.

Change to the definition of Sexual Harassment: In the new proposed legislation, in order for s*xual harassment to be considered valid under Title IX it would have to be “severe and pervasive”. This is very concerning because this would mean harassment would have to be very detrimental to the victim, such as missing class or work, before it could be considered worthy of a report.
