She danced across the finish line — and kept running!! 💃🏻🏃♀️
Denee finished her first Kona in 2022, at the age of 61. Three years later, she went back and finished 15 MINUTES FASTER! 🙌🏼
Let’s be real, getting faster after a certain age is unusual… But in some cases, it’s certainly possible! Denee trained in a really smart way this summer (enough, but not more than she could recover from) and her result speaks for itself. 🙌🏼 Her endlessly entertaining happy attitude plays a role here as well. 🤪
We love you, Denee! Congrats on a wildly successful day out there yesterday!

I remember the first conversation Lyra and I had, earlier this spring. Like many adults, her story was that she never really swam as a kid, and therefore didn’t feel comfortable in water. Swimming 100yd was exhausting. But she’d entered an Ironman (!) and was looking for guidance to help her get through it.
So that was a big ask, but Lyra has an awesome CAN DO attitude. 💪🏽 She trained consistently, diligently, and with gritty determination. By the time Ironman Barcelona came around, there was no doubt in my mind that she was going to finish it! 👊🏼
Indeed! She went from being a non-swimmer earlier this year to finishing that 2.4 mile swim in 1:42! 🙌🏼 Then, she rode steady, using the bike as a moving buffet (!), which set her up to run a solid, evenly split marathon.
A+ on race ex*****on! 💯 Lyra is a ‘coachable’ athlete, and the result speaks for itself! There’s nothing quite like the pride of finishing your first Ironman! Let that feeling of satisfaction wash over you, knowing that you can accomplish whatever you decide you want to accomplish! 🫶🏼

Looking to take on a BatSh*tCrazy adventure? How about the Pikes Peak Ascent? 13 miles from 6,000ft to 14,000ft, on rocky trails… 😮💨 That’s what Nikki decided to do! 🤪😎🤩
Congrats, Nikki! Massive accomplishment!

Another beautifully paced great run by Denee! 🤩 She went to Kauai and ran the 1/2 Marathon there in 2:04. Outstanding!! And! A nice gift to herself before her birthday next week! 🥳

She’s relentless! 110 miles around Oahu today as part of the Dick Evans Memorial Road Race!
You know how many other women 60+ opted to jump in and ride today? Zero. Just Denee. She is one of her kind! Congrats, Denee!! Keep going!

Last summer she was on Oahu racing the North Shore ocean swims… This summer she was in Virginia Beach navigating new waters and making new friends! The locals there know who she is now, given that she won the 3rd and final swim race this morning and earned the title of OA Series winner! 🏆
And here’s a crowd sourcing question for you: What should she do with this trophy?? 😳

Matt ran the 16 mile run leg of the Oahu Pentathlon relay on Saturday… It was his first real fitness test since becoming a dad, and it went exceptionally well! Patient pacing paid off with a beautiful negative split and a 45min last 10k! Welcome back to the racing scene, Matt! 🏃🏻♂️

She did it! Terri went to New York… and swam around Manhattan! 28.5 miles in just over 9 hours… Another incredible open water swimming feat! 🙌🏼
What big hairy ass goal have you been thinking about attempting? What would happen if you made a decision to go after it?

Well how about that?! Denee got home from a 12 day trip to Iceland yesterday… So naturally, she got up this morning and ran the Boca 15km! *tcrazy
Jet lag be damned, she landed 3rd in her AG with a well paced strong effort run! 🤙🏼
Congrats, Denee!

And the racing continues!
After her longest ever swim race yesterday on the north shore (!), Lyra raced the Na Wahine Sprint Triathlon this morning! 😅 She’: been training diligently and get this - she dropped 12min off her finish time from last year, and landed top step of the podium in her AG! 🥇 What a difference a year (and smart, consistent training) can make!
And GWEN also reported feeling strong while racing this morning, especially starting the run. Gwen is learning to trust herself - that she can push to uncomfortable efforts AND has built the fitness to hold it. Super job, going faster than last year and landing 2nd in her AG! 🥈
Shout out as well to Lexi (not pictured) who also took on the double race weekend - North Shore Challenge on Saturday followed by Na Wahine this morning! She raced aggressively and reports feeling strong on the bike! 💪🏽 Making herself proud, one day at a time.
Congrats to everyone who@was in the arena this weekend. As one athlete reflected, we learn by doing. Go do the thing you’re thinking about doing! 🤙🏼

Lyra contacted me a few months ago… she had a dilemma. Her friend had talked her into entering an Ironman Triathlon, and she said , even though she had never actually practiced swimming. 😬
“I’m not a water girl”, she told me.
This is something we’ll need to shift then, before you go do your Ironman, I replied!
Step 1: Become aware of what you’re telling yourself. Shift that phrase by swapping out the word “not” for the word “becoming”.
“I am becoming a water girl.”
That’s better.
Step 2: Get in the water, frequently!
We did a bit of stroke technique work, then the rest has been up to her… she swims 3x/week, every week, often in the ocean.
Today, she completed the Chun’s to Waimea 1.6 mile ocean swim! Huge accomplishment, considering that a few months ago, swimming 100 yards non-stop was a challenge.
It’s so cool to find out what you can actually do, when you decide you’re going to really try. 🤙🏼
Congrats, Lyra! You’re a water girl now! 💦
