The Colorado Shaketails are a SASS affiliated cowboy action shooting club. We are located about 25 miles south of Colorado Springs.

Established in 1989, the Colorado Shaketails are the oldest cowboy action shooting society in the Colorado Territory. The Colorado Shaketails hold monthly shoots year-round at the Frontier Sportsman's Club, Fountain Range. Come join us on the first Sunday of the month for a great time. You're guarantied to go home with a smile on you face.

Today was a warm one! Temps hit the mid 90’s and there was no breeze most of the day. We had a bonus hostage rifle target on stage 5 that was quite challenging (see picture). I was impressed with how many shooters got the bonus and no one hit the hostage! Thanks to Dixie Doug for contributing some of the pictures today. Scoresheet is here:http://shaketails.net/Final_Tattler/Tattler2026/June2026Tattler.pdf

We're planning to shoot this Sunday. We will start setup at 8:00, registration is at 8:30 and the safety briefing will be at 9:00. The weather in Fountain is forecasted to be mostly sunny with a high temperature in the low 90°s. Don't forget the Bottom Feeder 1911 category. If it is something that sounds interesting to you, Take a look at this link to information on the web site: http://shaketails.net/BFAS.pdf. Bring plenty of water. Don’t forget the pot luck after the shoot. There will be a generator so crock pots can be brought for the potluck.

There will not be locks on either gate but it is important to close the gates behind you. To get range directions go to the webpage at: http://shaketails.net/FSC_Directions.htm.

The scoresheet is up. The weather was near perfect and we had a good turnout. We had a new no-shoot hostage target that challenged the pistol skills. We had a first-time shooter join us – Slow Joe. We hope he had a good time and we see him back. We Also had a returning Buckeroo, Apollo, who is developing his skills with each shoot.http://shaketails.net/Final_Tattler/Tattler2026/Mayl2026Tattler.pdf

The reports are that the Range is open and no structures were damaged just burnt grass. We got lucky.

This is the current information on the Hammer Fire. The good news is it is at 80%+ containment at some 4900 acres burned. Until we can get on Hammer Road we can’t fully assess the damage. However, the the current burn map makes it look like the range acted as a fire break and burned along the west side of the rifle ranges and then across the north boundary. If this is accurate the storage trailers were spared. I will update when we get first hand confirmation of conditions at the range.

Hammer Fire Update – Hanover Fire Department

Good news, Hanover community:

The Hammer Fire is now 80% contained. All supporting resources have been released, and Hanover Fire crews have transitioned into the cleanup and monitoring phase.

Firefighters are actively working to:

🔥 Reinforce containment lines
🔥 Crews will continue to monitor fire conditions closely as weather and wind can still impact fire behavior.

Incident Command expects 100% containment tomorrow morning at some point.

We appreciate your continued support and cooperation throughout this incident.

Please remain aware of fire conditions and avoid the area while crews continue operations as we are still in a High Fire Danger (Red Flag Warning) until 9:00 pm tonight.

✅ We will continue to provide updates as needed.

It is with great sadness that I must convey news that Don Wonders, AKA Drifter Don, passed away Thursday evening. Don was a member of the Colorado Shaketails for many years and always volunteered to help wherever he could, including filling in for Match Director on occasions. I always enjoyed shooting with him. He will be missed. Please keep Don's family in your thoughts and prayers.

Our next shoot would fall on Easter Sunday. We have most of the club officers with family commitments that day so we are going to cancel. See you in May.

Happy Easter!

The scoresheet is posted. Congrats to Shaketail on a clean match. I also want to welcome new shooter Lance. Hope he enjoyed it and comes back. Our unseasonally warm weather continued making it a very comfortable day. We brought out the clay popper which is always challenging. It seemed to be the day for rifle problems with several shooters having issues. I had to sit it out due to gout but I did get some pics to share.http://shaketails.net/Final_Tattler/Tattler2026/Mar2026Tattler.pdf
