In Taiji training, stillness is the mother of power.

Stillness gathers spirit; spirit gathers yi; yi gives rise to energy.

If one moves without stillness, qi floats and scatters; if one is still without movement, progress stagnates.

Thus movement and stillness give rise to each other — stillness within movement, movement within stillness — this is true gongfu.

Taiji skill emphasizes whole-body unity.

When one part moves, all move; when one part is still, all are still.

The upper moves and the lower responds; the internal moves and the external aligns; form turns with intent; force moves with qi.

If divided into upper/lower or inner/outer, qi breaks, force scatters, and it is not whole-body power.

Taiji skill methods begin with relaxation and stillness, then regulate breath, then adjust posture.

With a focused mind, qi sinks to the dantian, motion and stillness become interdependent, and top and bottom follow one another.

The whole body moves as one continuous breath, no breaks, no errors, no blockages.

With inward spirit, harmonious qi and blood, and a full dantian, internal skill arises naturally.

Taiji energy spirals like silk threads, coiled and continuous.

This silk-reeling energy flows as one breath throughout the body, from inside to outside, from root to tip.

Power originates in the feet, is governed by the waist, and arrives at the fingers.

Within the coiling lies the potential to neutralize and issue; firmness and softness are embedded together; motion and stillness alternate.

Taiji skill requires top and bottom to follow each other, inside and outside to harmonize.

When the hand moves, the foot follows; when the elbow moves, the knee responds; when the shoulder moves, the hip coordinates.

If the upper body moves and the lower does not follow, energy breaks; if internal motion lacks external response, force is disorganized.

When movement is unified and energy pathways are clear, true whole-body power is achieved.

Taijiquan says: “Command it with the waist.”

The waist governs the whole body. All motion must originate there.

If the waist moves, the body moves; if the waist is aligned, the posture is aligned.

A relaxed waist makes energy agile; a stiff waist breaks force.

Therefore, skill practice begins with adjusting the waist, only then can qi be moved and energy transmitted.

The mingmen is the “Gate of Life” — the pivot point for internal qi.

When the mingmen is blocked, qi cannot flow; when it is open, qi circulates freely.

To open the mingmen, align the body and spine, relax the hips, sink the shoulders, and place the intent in the waist.

When the mingmen opens, upper and lower connect, and inside and outside become one.
