Founded in 2002, Natyasangam Dance Academy imparts sound training in the technique of classical Indian dances such as Bharatanatyam and Sattriya as well as Indian folk dances. Indian literature, sculpture, music and religion encompass the essence of these dance styles. my encourages students to think and express ideas through this medium. The Natyasangam Dance Academy consists of students ranging from the ages of 5 to adults. Natyasangam follows the Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam instruction. The training gives equal importance to movement and communicative aspects of the classical and folk dances. The end of the academic year is marked by the annual recital performed by the students. The recitals consist of Bharatanatyam ballets based on Hindu literature and mythology. During the course of the year, students are given an opportunity to perform at different local events and venues. The most important motive and aim of the Academy is to maintain the purity and tradition of the dance forms and encourage its students to think and express ideas through different dance mediums.

Bonmayuri Kalita is the founder and director of the Natyasangam Dance Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As an acclaimed artist, choreographer and an active philanthropist, Bonmayuri has performed at charitable events and prestigious venues worldwide. Her fundraising events include:

Bonmayuri is dedicated to promoting and preserving the ancient dance forms of Sattriya and Bharatanatyam. Bora of Assam and Padmashri Guru Adyar K. Lakshman of Chennai. Both Gurus are disciples of Rukmini Devi Arundale, the founder of the Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam. Rukmini Devi was featured in India Today’s list of ‘100 People Who Shaped India’. She was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1956.

We are excited to announce that Natyasangam Dance Academy will resume in-studio classes this Fall. Fall classes will begin on Sunday, August 15th. We will operate our classes at the following studio location:

Cindy's Dance Factory
14960 Woodcarver Rd
Colorado Springs, CO 80921

Directions to the studio:

Take I-25 to the Baptist Road exit (Exit 158)
Head west on Baptist Road
Enter the roundabout
Take the third exit from the roundabout (Woodcarver Road)
Go to the west (back) side of the building and go in the glass doors to your left. You will see the studio door.

Natyasangam Sunday class schedule:

Beginner II: 9:30 am - 10:30 am
Intermediate I: 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Beginner I: 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
