Cows are smarter than you think - so let them do most of the work!

In the training pen, many riders feel the urge to step in early and correct every mistake, but experienced horsemen know that too much interference can take away valuable learning moments.

When a horse is given the space to read the cow, make decisions, and work through situations naturally, real development begins. Timing becomes sharper, feel improves, and confidence builds with every run. The rider’s role is to stay correct in position, guide when needed, and avoid disrupting the learning process.

Over time, the cow becomes the teacher and the horse becomes the student.

As we get closer to our September cutting, check out this super informative playlist from NCHA judges with hot topics, common questions, and learn ways to get the best out of your run on the scorecard!

Remember, if you have questions about your score, our judge is a wealth of knowledge and always happy to answer any questions or explain your run content and what he saw, so feel free to stop by and talk to Chris! As always, respectful conversation is appreciated and encouraged, but please wait until he is not actively judging to stop by 🤠
