đĽSecondary Factors in Stress Fractures
These are not just 6 weeks and ease back in!
Training behavior and fueling arguably play the largest role.
However, sometimes there are other factors at play. Especially when the training and fueling seem quite reasonable. Some easier to manipulate and others more challenging.
Keeping an eye out for this other factors can really make a difference in the expectations long term woth your game plan. Specifically looking at the medications and youth activities here as that is not looked at enough in the PT world.
Additionally, sleep and stress from other life demands are often quite relevant too and deserve attention.
Again, these situations are almost always more than just 6 weeks off and ease back in.
We love biomechanics in PT, but that often falls pretty low in the hierarchy of helping someone recover from stress fracture for me.

đŚ´Stress Fractures
These are not just a 6 weeks off and ease back in!
𤿠If you donât want another, we have to dive into how yours happened. Itâs almost always more complicated than you think.
đŁď¸ Saying youâll be more mindful in training or fueling is NOT that same as understanding and addressing how you got here in the first place.
This takes a village. PT, coach, dietician, psychologist, and physicians can all play an important role to ensure you are set up long term.
If you donât know where to start with your recovery, shoot me a DM.

đDevil on the Divide 50k 2025
My first 50k in the books! OkâŚso it was under 29mi per my watch, but with most of the course being between 10-13k in elevation and having 6.7k ft of climbing, I really donât care.
What an epic day! Still not sure why exactly I signed up or if I really had that much fun during. Wasnât going to drop though even though I really didnât feel great. Miss timed the training by about a week and was still absorbing the training.
I think that at least some of this was me trying to regain the fitness and confidence in my body I had in 2022 prior to injuring my ankle. Trying to prove to myself that I could again. Yes, there are some mental health issues to work through. Hit me up if youâre in that space and want to help me.
Despite the numerous question marks around what I could do physically and mentally, there has long been a part of me that knew I could do this. Even when my legs didnât feel good 9-10mi in, dropping was never a consideration. Something in me told me I had enough to keep moving. To get to the finish line.
Thank god it told me that before the second half. I got worked on that portion! Enough that it frustrates me a little making me want to revisit this. Maybe in 2027 We will see where life takes us these next couple years.
All in all, now that I am a few weeks removed I can feel the type 2 fun that happened that day. This is a great race and very well done. Stunning scenery even with smoky conditions though that did clear as the day went on. Great post race spread though I didnât get to enjoy it as I was nauseas for many hours after and unable to eat or drink.
You should absolutely consider getting it on your race calendar!

Dear runners and endurance athletes,
Are you stuck in this cycle?
Many people are. Weâre helping people everyday break this cycle of relying on passive modalities that take the locus of control away from you and onto someone else. You have all that you need inside you to manage things independently if you are open and ready to explore it. Wonât be easy, but it will be lasting.
There is nothing wrong with these modalities as a small part of a bigger plan. However, many people (clinicians and athletes) donât use them in this manner. Itâs a mean to address symptoms in the short term and get back to training asap without ever addressing anything meaningful.
If we instead take a step back, address training behavior, acknowledge and account for life stressors, and manipulate supplementary exercises for tissue healthâŚeverything changes! Rarely, if ever, will you need these passive modalities.
