That time I side quested so hard I ended up training rugby. 🀣 Great opportunity to work on my shots and breakfalls, but what really stood out was the camaraderie and culture. Rugby people are built different. πŸ’ͺ🏾

I changed my mind... and here's why.

This has happened to a lot of Judo guys. Never celebrate until you hear "Ippon." Lesson learned. πŸ˜‚

Viral videos are funny... until you realize there's actually a lesson here. Train before you need it.

One thing I love about competing is that the match doesn't end when the timer does.

The real learning starts when you sit down and break the footage apart.

Here's what I would've changed on this throw. β˜οΈβ¬†οΈ

Not every tournament ends with gold, but every tournament leaves you better. Two silver medals, a lot of lessons, and more motivation to get back to work. πŸ™Œ

This weekend was a good reminder of why I love Judo.

Got to share the mats with 3 black belts, and honestly thats always a good day. Win or lose, those are the kind of matches that make you better.

In the Veterans 88–95kg division I took πŸ₯ˆ Silver after two solid matches. πŸ₯‹ Won one by Ippon. πŸ₯‹ Lost one by Yuko.

I signed up for Senior -100 but it was uncontested, so they also put me in the Veterans 43–64 years, 101kg+ division.

The funny part... I weighed in at 92kg.
I figured why not. More mat time is never a bad thing.
Ended up having 3 matches: πŸ₯‹ Two wins by Ippon. πŸ₯‹ One loss by Pin late in the match.

Overall I'm pretty happy with how I competed, but the tournament also showed me exactly what I need to work on. I need to be more active in the grip fight, combine my attacks better instead of hunting for one big throw, and stop giving people time to reset. Little things that make a huge diference against good guys.
That's why I like competing. The medals are cool, but what keeps me coming back is finding the holes in my game and trying to fix them.

There are no half-scores in Combatives. We went into overtime tied 0-0. One mistake later, it was over. That's why chasing the finish matters.
