Grace Kissell breaks Falcon single game scoring record with 37 points -
It was all business last week for the Louisa-Muscatine Girls Basketball team. After suffering a devastating SEISC North loss to Highland, the Falcons were out to prove a point in their three games played. That all started when they hosted the Columbus Wildcats on Tuesday, Jan 6th, in Letts.
The defense held the Wildcats to just 28 points and forced 22 steals in the 61-28 conference win. And according to gobound.com, the Falcons are leading the entire state of Iowa in 2A play with 226 total steals this year. Meanwhile, Lone Tree lost another conference game, bumping the girls up to the second spot in the standings behind unbeaten Highland.
It was Grace Kissell with the big offensive night versus Columbus scoring 26 points. Her 11 steals locked in a double-double game. And don’t forget about her five rebounds, five assists, and four blocks. Hannah Kissell was knocking down big shots as well, and she finished with 16 points and five rebounds.
Junior Lexi Ramer scored nine points to go along with her seven rebounds, four steals, and four assists. Taylor Morrison made her presence known down low with seven points and seven rebounds and Kiki Enriquez tallied five steals, four rebounds, and three points for the Falcons.
Thursday night saw the team get an extra non-conference game in against the winless Cedar Valley Christian team. The Huskies were simply outmatched by the Falcons in this one. Louisa-Muscatine put up 86 points, held the Huskies to just nine points scored, and Grace Kissell broke the school record with 37 points scored in the game. It was an all out dominating night for the Falcons.
The sophomore, Grace Kissell, followed up her 26-point performance by breaking Kaylee Corbin’s single game scoring record by one point with 37, and tallied eight steals, six rebounds, and six assists on the stat sheet. Lexi Ramer had one of her best games for Louisa-Muscatine, scoring 22 points and adding eight assists and seven rebounds. Hannah scored 19 points in the win and forced nine steals, just missing out on a double-double.
Senior Jillian Sneddon continued to make an impact off the bench scoring four points pulling down four boards. Taylor Morrison recorded seven rebounds, six steals, and two points, while Kiki Enriquez was doing a little bit of everything, scoring three points, recording three rebounds, and adding two steals and assists.
The win set up another SEISC North game against the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves on Friday night in Letts. The Wolves were still missing many key players due to injuries this season and the Falcons capitalized to get their third straight win. The final score was 68-41 and the Falcons finished off the week with a record of 10-3 (8-2).
Senior Taylor Morrison night included nine points, nine rebounds, and six steals, falling just short of a double-double in the win. Grace Kissell led the offense again with 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Hannah Kissell had 13 points, six steals, five rebounds, and four assists.
Lexi Ramer also had a nice night with 12 points, six steals, and five assists. Kiki Enriquez added seven points and five rebounds. Junior Mckinsie Reeves made her return from injury and chimed in with five points while Ally Burmeister also scored in the win for the team.
The Falcons will return to the court on Tuesday, Jan. 13th at Wapello against the Arrows. Don't forget to pick up your copies of The Columbus Gazette!
