For Angela Henry, coach of Indiana Elite Equestrians in Bremen, Indiana, YEDA is first and foremost a ministry.
๏ปฟOriginally from Memphis, Tennessee, Angela now calls Bremen home and has been a YEDA coach for five years. During that time, she has come to appreciate the community YEDA creates for both riders and coaches.
Through YEDA, Angela has made connections with coaches throughout the horse world, opening the door to new partnerships, professional relationships, and friendships. For her, it is another example of how YEDA builds community beyond the show ring.
Angela also values YEDAโs commitment to creating a patriotic, Christian atmosphere through prayer and Cowboy Church on Sundays. One Sunday stands out. A pastor had Cowboy Bibles available, and Angela was able to share one with a young woman who had recently been saved.
โIt is important to me that I try to share the love of Jesus and be a positive light,โ Angela said. โI remind my team that we couldnโt do any of this without God. He is the one who makes this possible and has blessed them with their gifts and talents.โ Sometimes that ministry is much simpler.
โSometimes your smile might be the only one theyโve seen that day.โ
Angela has also watched horses teach her riders empathy, compassion, perseverance, and confidence. She encourages them to challenge themselves with every horse they ride, learning to adjust their approach and discover what they can accomplish together.
Those lessons reach far beyond competition.
For Angela, winning matters, but it isn't the only measure of success. YEDA provides an opportunity to help young people grow in faith, character, horsemanship, and compassion while creating a place where they are encouraged and know they belong.
That is what makes YEDA more than a horse show organization for Angela. It is an opportunity to use horses to serve others, build meaningful relationships, share the love of Jesus, and positively influence the next generation; one rider, one horse, and sometimes one smile at a time. ๐น
