To our incredible Parks community, please join us in welcoming Erin Hartwell, who has joined the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department as Fitness, Health, and Wellness Manager at NexusPark.
Erin is an accomplished Olympian, U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame Inductee, elite athletic coach, and former program administrator for multiple governing bodies of sport within the Olympic Movement. A three-time Olympic athlete and two-time Olympic medalist with Team USA, Erin brings a wealth of sports and fitness management experience to NexusPark and the City of Columbus.
Considered a specialist in developing innovative sports-performance programs and projects from the ground up, Erin will be key in building upon the progressive sports and wellness initiatives taking root at the Department of Parks and Rec in Columbus.
After three decades of supporting the growth of sports and fitness worldwide, Erin has returned to Central Indiana to give back to the communities that helped pave the way for his earlier athletic success. A Sagamore of the Wabash and graduate of Southport High School in Indianapolis, Erin comes home to Indiana to be closer to family and strengthen his already deep ties to the Hoosier community.

The City of Columbus is set to present the report on the Columbus Housing Study and Needs Assessment on Thursday, September 19, 2024. The event will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the Cal Brand Meeting Hall at City Hall, featuring insights from the consulting firm RDG Planning and Design.
Following the presentation, community members will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session. For those unable to attend in person, the meeting will be accessible via Webex, ensuring wider participation. Additionally, the session will be recorded and made available on the city’s website for later viewing, allowing residents to stay informed about the findings and recommendations of the study.

Columbus, IN – Donner Center will be open and staffed on Tuesday, August 27 through Friday, August 30 from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm . Crates will be available from Columbus Animal Care for those that have animals. Animals will not be allowed to run free, unless they are a service animal.
According to the National Weather Service, a Heat Advisory is issued for Tuesday, August 27 from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. Heat index values up to 100 expected for portions of central, east central, north central, south central, southeast, southwest, and west central Indiana. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. The excessive heat may be hazardous for sensitive and vulnerable populations. Take extra precautions if spending extended time outside today.

Columbus, IN- In the evening hours of Wednesday, July 24, the City of Columbus, Indiana experienced a data breach. Safeguards through the City of Columbus IT Department immediately took place to limit access to information. The incident is being investigated by the City of Columbus Director of Security and Risk, Mike Richardson, along with City of Columbus IT Department. According to Richardson, “We are working to investigate this isolated incident and taking measures to put further safeguards in place to mitigate future risk to the city’s cyber infrastructure.” No credit card or banking information within the city was compromised in the breach.
This is a completely separate and coincidental incident from the internet outage that occurred early this morning. Payments and online services will not be available at this time. City email is affected by the outage. Any previously scheduled meetings for the City of Columbus will continue to meet as scheduled. Updates will be provided when connection is restored.
