“Bones don’t get tired”
When?
This crossover cue can be used to describe positioning in gymnastics and Olympic lifting
What does this mean?
A stacked position (joints locked out and bones stacked on top of each other) is more efficient than a slouched position.
Similar to referencing segments of the body as building blocks, being stacked is more stable than being unstacked.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that you won’t “get tired” in a stacked position, but you will be using less energy, and moving more efficiently.
Similar cues:
“Stacked building blocks”
“Tighter is lighter”
“Quicksand or concrete”

“‘Bicep by the ear”
When?
Single arm overhead squatting
What does this mean?
When holding an object overhead with a single arm (kettlebell, dumbbell, slam ball, etc) we want to keep it as close to our midline as possible and with a locked out elbow. This places us in a balanced, efficient, stable position
Keeping the bicep of the supporting arm next to the ear keeps the weight of that object close to the midline.

“Last set, best set”
What does this mean?
Finish strong!
By no means does this imply that the preceding sets or intervals aren’t important. However, the opportunities that lie within that last push are extremely important and something you should look for each time you train.
How do you normally feel during your last set?
If you have been pushing yourself, then you likely feel a little beat up and tired. Leading into the last set, you may even feel a little scared or unsure of your capability (“Can I do this?”).
Those last sets are the “golden moments” for you to capitalize on your gains.
- Builds physical strength
- Builds mental toughness
- Builds awareness of your limits
- Increases the importance of technique

“Be a fountain, not a drain”
What does this mean?
FOUNTAINS: Bring life and energy to their team. They are positive, encouraging and make everyone around them better.
DRAINS: Suck the energy out of the room. They are negative, complain and have a problem for every solution.
Be a fountain today!

“Even if it’s hard, you don’t know that you can’t do it until you try.” - Mark Rippetoe
What does this mean?
“If you give yourself permission to stop pushing on something that is hard (on the barbell or in life) to the extent that the minute it slows down, even a little bit, you just automatically jump out from underneath it you’re not ever going to get strong.
Because you have decided that when it gets hard, you’re out of it.
One of the things you have to learn, one of the valuable lessons that the barbell teaches you is that even if it’s hard, you don’t know that you can’t do it until you try.” - Mark Rippetoe
