It was a privilege to serve as Race Director for the Soldier Marathon. Such a great group of friends and runners on the Race Committee. Such great memories. Wonderful support by Fort Benning, Columbus and Phenix City communities. Wonderful people running the race and in honor of loved ones and those who served us well. The race will be missed however it was time to retire the race. Everything has a season.

Wonderful visit today at the National Infantry Museum with runner Garry Gay (2nd from left), his wife, Kay, and daughter, Sherry Uhrig with husband, Chris, and son. Garry suffered a heart attack during the 2019 Soldier Marathon and has made a full recovery. Daughter Sherry was also running in the race. Garry and his family wished to return to the National Infantry Museum. Race Director, Cecil Cheves, Race Committee Member, Greg Camp, and Tour Volunteer Bill Scrantom, gave Garry a tour of the Museum.

This is an update on the runner who suffered a cardiac event during the Soldier Marathon on Saturday. The runner was given medical care on the course and then was taken to the hospital. We are pleased to say the runner has continued to improve this week and his family expects him to be discharged from the hospital later this week.
