A woman named Dena recently shared her memories of our beloved summer hang out/swim club ..............

We would spend every summer at LIVCO pool that was my favorite place to be. We would ride our schwinn 10 speeds from Lawrence Ave (in the once New Rome) put our towels around our necks and our swimming pool pass in our mouths and head off. We would spend the entire day there until it was Family swim and we couldn't wait until we were 12 so we could stay for teen swim. I remember picking up trash so we could earn a pop. If that wouldn't work I would walk across the lot over to the hospital (where my mom worked for an OB/GYN) dripping wet and beg for money. I loved to listen to the music they would play at the pool and hated rest period. I remember jumping off the high dive and losing my bathing suit. I remember thinking it was cool that all of our teachers from high school worked there. I also remember thinking how cool the life guards seemed at the time. It's such a shame it is a parking lot now. I think of LIVCO each time I hear that song " paved paradise and put up a parking lot" not sure of the real name.........I would love if someone has any pictures from then.....

LIVCO was a part of us that we'll never forget. Most of the staff were employees from the surounding schools, and there was no safer place to spend your summer. Neighbors from Linclon Village & New Rome would gather, and discuss news of the area schools, mall, neighborhood(s) and of their kids. Kids would meet there to play & swim, teens would hang out and discover boys/girls and gossip. It's where most of us learned to swim, and socialized until "family swim/adult swim". The smell of hotdogs, cotton candy filled the air, and the music they played will linger in our memories like summer days at LIVCO.
