CYSC Soccer Family,
The moment you’ve been waiting for is here!
Across youth sports throughout the nation, there is a growing need for committed referees. The reality is simple: without referees, games cannot be played.
CYSC wants to be part of the solution—and we’re willing to invest in members of our own soccer community who are ready to step up.
Yes, CYSC will pay for your referee class AND your first referee uniform!
In return, we simply ask that you commit to refereeing at least 10 games per month for three months.
The referee class date is still being determined and will be announced very soon, and the class will be held right here in Columbus.
While individuals can become referees and take the certification class beginning at age 13, CYSC will sponsor 10 individuals who are age 16 or older through this opportunity.
This is a wonderful way to:
• Give back to our soccer community • Stay involved in the beautiful game • Work a flexible schedule • Earn more than fair-market pay • Help ensure our players have officials and games each weekend
Whether you are a player, former player, parent, coach, college student, or simply someone who loves soccer, we would love for you to consider becoming part of our referee community.
Only 10 sponsorship opportunities are available.
If you are interested or have questions, please reply to this email or contact me at [email protected].
Thank you for helping us continue to grow the game in Columbus. Our players need referees—and this could be a great opportunity for you or someone you know!

Dear CYSC Families,
Our staff is diligently working to organize teams and prepare for the upcoming season. We appreciate your patience as we complete this important process.
Coaches will receive their rosters on August 13. Please allow them until August 20 to contact their players and families. If you have not heard from a coach by August 21, please contact the CYSC office.
If you did not order a uniform during registration, uniforms should be available for purchase around the end of August. We will share additional information as soon as they arrive.
As we prepare for the season, please review these important reminders:
• Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Please make sure players drink plenty of water before, during, and after practices and games.
• Players must wear the complete CYSC-issued uniform to participate in games.
• The home team, listed first on the schedule, wears the blue jersey and blue socks. The away team wears the white jersey and white socks.
• Accessories, including small earrings, may be worn only when they are safely and securely covered and the referee determines they are not dangerous. The referee has the final decision, and any item considered unsafe must be removed before the player may participate.
• On cold-weather days, players may wear warm clothing underneath their uniforms. For player safety, hoodies are not permitted.
• Please avoid coaching from the sidelines. When cheering, try to avoid instructions such as “pass,” “shoot,” or “run.” When players receive directions from both sidelines and their coach, they can quickly become confused and frustrated. Positive encouragement is always welcome!
• Please do not harass or argue with our officials. They are human and will occasionally make mistakes, but without them, our games cannot be played. If you have a concern about an official, please email the CYSC office. We track complaints and forward concerns to the referee assignor.
• Focus on the game—not just the score. Everyone enjoys winning, but player development, effort, sportsmanship, and learning from mistakes are far more important.
• Please never speak negatively about any player or coach from either team. One way to prevent sideline conflict is to support your team from the side of the field opposite your team’s bench. While there is not technically a designated home or away spectator side, this is considered proper soccer etiquette.
• Please follow the 24-hour rule. If you have a concern involving a coach, do not approach them immediately after the game. Give yourself and the coach 24 hours to reflect before beginning the conversation. Emotions can run high following a game. If you have a serious concern, please contact the CYSC office. We can only assist when we are informed.
Thank you for helping us create a positive, safe, and enjoyable environment for every player, coach, referee, and family. We are looking forward to a wonderful season together!
Best regards,
David Miles Columbus Youth Soccer Club
