August 2021. 🥊⚡️
10-year-old Lightning Lila — at home, on the mitts with Dad.
I started boxing right before the world shut down.
No packed gyms. No tournaments. No crowds. No spotlight.
Just me, my dad, a pair of gloves, some mitts, and a decision to keep going.
When the pandemic forced me to train exclusively at home, it could have been the reason I stopped.
Instead, it became the reason I got serious.
While the world was shut down, I was just getting started.
This was the season that taught me what dedication really meant. Showing up when nobody was watching. Repeating the same combinations over and over. Learning to listen. Learning to push through frustration. Building discipline before I even understood how important discipline would become.
There were no guarantees about where boxing would take me.
We just kept working.
Dad held the mitts.
I threw the punches.
Day after day. 🥊
Looking back now, I realize these weren’t just workouts in our house.
We were building the foundation.
Before the big fights.
Before the national tournaments.
Before the medals.
Before people knew the name Lightning Lila…
There was this. ⚡️🥊
And I wouldn’t change a thing.
The world was shut down.
But my dream was just waking up.
