Life is funny sometimes.

It gives us opportunity, it gives us a tribe with which to surround ourselves and shelter us from the storm.

It shows us a path that can be walked that we never realized we wanted to walk and it provides us with strength before we ever realize how much more we might need.

Our Women Empowered program is a testament to all these things.

The accompanying picture tells a story of dedication, accomplishment, perseverance, extreme personal growth and an air of fierce independence where it may have been previously lacking.

Megan has been the utmost dedicated of students over the past year plus. Hours and hours of training, studying and dedicated work towards accomplishing the goal of earning the pink belt.

The belt represents each of the items mentioned previously but what it fails to capture the true measure of this woman. I’ve told her before and I’ll say it again here. I don’t really remember how strong she was when she joined but physically, mentally and emotionally she is one of the strongest women on our mats.

The growth has been amazing to witness but it’s just the beginning. She’s now earned her first Combative’s stripe and working towards becoming a certified Women’s Jiu-Jitsu Instructor for our WE program!

The path was long, the struggle was real and the growth was immense. What started off as a means to get an hour or two to herself turned into a passion, a dedication and created dreams, goals and a passion for something she never knew existed.

When you decide to do something for yourself instead of always doing for others there is sometimes some guilt.

Sometimes you don’t believe that you deserve that thing that you want to do.

Now looking back over the last year plus I know what she sees. She sees accomplishment in the face of personal adversity and she knows now that doing for herself actually allows her do something for others she never dreamed possible.

Two pictures represent two very different accomplishments. The achievement of her pink belt completing her initial journey as a Jiu-Jitsu student and sparking her path to future instructor status and the second is her first stripe of her continued Jiu-Jitsu journey into Combatives. A journey which would have never been possible without her Women Empowered Journey.

To say I am proud is an understatement!
