🇺🇸 25 Years Later. We Remember. 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years have passed since September 11, 2001 — yet for so many, the memories still feel like yesterday.

Today, we pause from the busyness of our lives and our little corner of the world to remember the lives that were lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who ran toward danger while others were running away. We remember the firefighters, police officers, first responders, military members, airline crews, and everyday people who showed extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable circumstances.

But we also remember what came after.

A nation that stood together.
Neighbors who helped neighbors.
Strangers who became friends.
Hands reaching out to help.
Flags flying proudly.
And a reminder of just how precious our time with one another truly is.

At Blue Moon, we are so incredibly grateful for the community we have built — for the families, children, riders, instructors, volunteers, and barn friends who come through our gates every day. Our little farm is built on friendship, kindness, courage, compassion, and taking care of one another.

Those are values worth remembering.

Today, may we teach our children not only what happened on September 11th, but also what it taught us about courage, sacrifice, unity, and the importance of never taking our loved ones or our freedom for granted.

25 years later, we remember.
We honor.
We give thanks.
And we will never forget. 🇺🇸

🎉🐴 HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Nora and Olivia on an amazing day at Ludwigs Horse Show yesterday! 🐴🎉

I was unfortunately unable to be there in person, but I heard the most amazing updates throughout the day, and I could not be more proud of these two! ❤️

🌟 Nora, I am SO incredibly proud of you and your perseverance! You handled Baby Brain Rooster like an absolute champ. Navigating new surroundings, people, jumps, and all the excitement of a show is no small accomplishment, and you handled yourself like a true horsewoman. You trusted your horse, stayed determined, and rose to the occasion. Watching you grow in confidence and ability is something I am so incredibly proud of. Way to go, kiddo! 🥹❤️

🏆 And a HUGE congratulations to our instructor, Olivia Thiel , for winning Grand Champion TIP in High Schooling Jumpers! What an incredible accomplishment! She handled her baby, Frankie, like a true pro and showed exactly what it means to lead by example. Not only did she have an amazing show herself, but she was an incredible role model for her students throughout the day. We are so lucky to have you as part of our program! ❤️🐴

One of my absolute favorite parts of what I get to do is watch these kids grow — not just as riders, but as horsewomen, competitors, teammates, and confident young people. Seeing the little moments turn into big accomplishments, watching their confidence grow, and seeing them tackle challenges they once thought were impossible makes all of the hard work worth it.

I am beyond proud of the progress happening within our program and of the amazing people these kids are becoming. It is such a privilege to watch them learn, fall, get back up, try again, and eventually realize just how capable they truly are. ❤️

Congratulations, Nora and Olivia! You both made us incredibly proud! Keep growing, keep learning, and keep believing in yourselves. The best is still ahead! 🐴✨❤️

You are surrounded by people all day... students, parents, and horses. The barn is never empty and you are rarely alone and yet there is a specific kind of loneliness that comes with being the one responsible for all of it that most people who have not done this job will never fully understand.

It is the loneliness of being the one who holds all the information but cannot share most of it. The student who is struggling emotionally. The family going through something difficult. The horse that is not quite right and you are not sure why yet. The financial pressure that nobody else knows about. You carry all of it and you carry it alone because you are the professional and professionals do not unload on their students or their clients.

It is the loneliness of having nobody to debrief with at the end of the day. A bad lesson. A difficult conversation with a parent. A horse that scared you a little and you are still processing it. Most people go home from work and talk to someone about their day. You go home and feed horses and do it again tomorrow because there is nobody waiting at the end of your day who truly understands what the day actually cost you.

It is the loneliness of making decisions that affect everyone and having no one to make them with. When do you retire the school horse everyone loves. Whether to let a student go whose behavior has become a problem. How to handle the parent who is making your barn feel like a difficult place to be. These decisions sit with you. They keep you up at night sometimes and you make them mostly alone because the nature of being in charge is that the weight of it lands where the authority does.

It is the loneliness of caring more than most people around you realize. You invest deeply in your students - in their confidence, their progress, their relationship with horses. Most of them have no idea how much of yourself goes into what looks from the outside like a forty five minute lesson. When they leave, sometimes without a word or sometimes after years, that investment does not come back with them. You just absorb it and start again with the next person.

It is the loneliness of being surrounded by an industry that values toughness over honesty. The horse world does not make space for the admission that this is hard. That some days the weight of responsibility is genuinely crushing. That being the person in charge of everything - the horses, the students, the schedule, the income, the safety, the culture - is an isolating experience that most instructors navigate entirely without support because asking for help feels like admitting you cannot handle it. Or if you do try to find help, there is no good help to be found.

You can handle it and still be lonely. Both of those things are true at the same time. Here is what actually helps...

Find your people. Not just horse people but instructor people. People who understand what it is like to be the one at the rail making judgment calls that affect living animals and developing humans simultaneously. Online communities, instructor networks, a single colleague you can call after a hard day - the specific relief of talking to someone who does not need it explained is genuinely irreplaceable. Seek that out deliberately rather than waiting for it to appear.

Let some of it be witnessed. You do not have to share everything and you should not but the instinct to perform like everything is fine when you are not is worth examining. The people in your life who are safe to be real with deserve the real version of you that can admit the weight is sometimes heavy.

Build recovery into your week on purpose. Not as a reward for surviving but as a structural requirement for continuing. Whatever actually restores you whether it is time outside, movement, complete disconnection from the barn for a few hours, treat it with the same seriousness you treat your teaching schedule. Your program depends on you and you depend on recovery whether you have given yourself permission to believe that yet or not.

This job is one of the most meaningful things a person can do with their working life. It is also genuinely isolating in ways that do not get acknowledged nearly enough. You are not alone in feeling alone.
