As I was reading this article it reminded me of one of my clients, Dante.
At 6β2 this Tulane University running back thought doing Pilates was going to be βa ladies wearing LuLulemon easy workoutβ with his girlfriend. By the end, while he was trying to catch his breath and wipe off all the sweat, he admitted he was taken aback by the precision and control required for each movement. The exercises challenged his balance, coordination, and stability in ways he had never experienced before.
He could feel his entire body working - muscles he didn't even know existed were engaged. The reformer's resistance, combined with the fluidity of the movements, provided a full-body workout that targeted both large and small muscle groups. It was a refreshing change from the heavy weights and explosive movements he was accustomed to in football training.
Dante discovered that Pilates reformer training not only challenged his physical abilities but also improved his overall body awareness and posture. The emphasis on core strength helped him stabilize his spine and improve his alignment, which translated into better balance and control on the football field.
So, for any college football player out there who may be underestimating the benefits of Pilates reformer training, it's time to give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised by the challenges it presents and the positive impact it can have on your overall athleticism.
