Meditation and awareness

The precision nutrition is a great source about anything nutrition and I am a fan of it. I use their their calculator once in a while to check on food intake (not that I follow it))) and last week they sent an article “Are you a stress eater?” that caught my attention. See the graphic below. Does it look familiar? It is to me. Nothing new here. However, the advice they give is to experiment while writing down what going on in your head. The idea is to allow yourself to eat as much as you want while being AWARE and recording what phases you go through. Then it can be used to identify stressors.
Sounds obvious but actually implementing it is life changing.
Also, do you see how meditation is training us to be aware? Also, it can be used to pause before taking an action to comprehend the situation and then react.

Namaste!

My staple workouts for the past few years were yoga practices, weight training, and spinning/running/walking. I always intended to have seasonal activities to prevent boredom, develop new skills, and add variety. I never did; I could not give up anything I liked that much, and I still do. However, living in the sunshine state finally got to me with the heat and humidity that makes it a challenge to be outside, and I am adding swimming to my routine while cutting a bit on walking and spinning. Day one was a success:
– I made it to the tryouts at 5:30 am, after weights and a 20-minute spinning session (not a good idea, I now know)
– I did not run away after I realized how HUGE the pool was as I ran out of breath on lap #1 (warm-up is 600 meters, so six(!!!) laps)
– Swimming is similar to yoga as it is a flow, and a lot depends on breathing, which makes me grateful that I practiced yoga with breathing for years (you see how one activity relates to another?)
– The coach said that he was impressed to see that I lasted that long :-)
Overall, it was a great experience, and I hope the one that will last this summer. By the way, the bonus - out of this world sunrise.
Here is to the new beginnings!

I am feeling small here studying yoga philosophy and Vedas. As the saying goes, the more you know, the more you realize you do not know. It is intriguing how opposite Hinduism is from the Catholic and Orthodox religions. It is like Windows and Mac (if you know, you know).
Humans are neither created nor can they die - they change form in Hinduism. Our "original" metaphysical form (energetic selves without bodies) is flawless and eternal, changing upon birth into the human form with the goal of returning to its original state. Whereas in Christianity, we are mortal. Therefore, we need to abide by the rules to deserve heaven.
In both cases, we are given steps to reach the desired state: yoga in Hinduism and commandments in the other.
Ultimately, created or not, eternal or mortal, it is all about the life we choose to live.

Namaste!

I am jumping into the new week and summer with open arms in Star or Utthita Tadasana (see the image). I look forward to new movies, Broadway shows, Beyonce's concert, dance nationals (one week in Orlando!!!), maybe Disney parks, and quick trips. Summer is my favorite time to add more yoga and swimming to my day, as I do not have to rush in the morning to get anyone out of the door. What are your plans?
I hope you can join me for a yoga flow in the park!

Today I want to share one of my favorites and go-to moves that is perfect after a prolonged sitting, walks, runs, or just because. As you can see in the image, my legs are wide with hills turned in; my hands are above my knees looking in. Now turn side to side, pushing against thighs and strengthening one arm at a time. It does miracles for the spine! Enjoy!

Namaste!

Long weekends are like mini-vacations if we allow ourselves to take it. I have to plan them. Otherwise, I am tempted to finish and do projects and cleaning, which is part of my routine. Burning down in the past decade taught me to reset, delegate, and use help as often as possible.
Here are this weekend's walk pictures with sunset and doing nothing. It is unexpected how hard it is - take a break. How do you recover?

This week, I plan to teach a yoga flow class in the park this Saturday morning, and I hope you can join me!

Have a great week!

Introducing short mobility bites into the day is a great way to enhance the day. Take your time. Slow down for a couple of minutes.

Try it, share it, and let me know how it went.
