Good afternoon. We wanted put this message out to let everyone know where Legacy Elite Baseball stands in the situation that has been created with MYBL being removed as the recreational youth baseball provider in the City of Margate.
In May of 2022, an agreement was completed between what was Broward Elite Baseball and the Margate Youth Baseball league. This agreement was entered into with two focuses, grow both organizations. We were tasked by MYBL to propose a plan of action to involve our organization with theirs. The plan was as follows:
1. Broward Elite Baseball would provide free players clinics once a month to MYBL players and Margate residents. These clinics were also open to the public. We wanted to use the free clinics to bolster signups from kids not currently in the league. These clinics were all taught by our professional coaches.
2. Broward Elite Baseball would provide free coaches clinics once a month to all of the coaches that volunteered their time in MYBL. These clinics were taught by our professional coaches.
3. Our president was placed on the board of MYBL as the voice of what became Legacy Elite Baseball. Not only did he sit on the board as the travel director but he was also responsible for the new relationship with Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth. We drove home together the partnership with Cal Ripken to give the kids in the MYBL an opportunity to play in real sanctioned all-star events every summer. All the way through the Cal Ripken World Series!
4. Legacy Elite created the Legacy Elite Prospects academy. This academy was established to take the all-star kids and provide weekly training to them from our professional coaches. This program was to get the all star teams ready for the road to the Cal Ripken World Series in the summer.
All of this was free. These were all expenses incurred by Legacy Elite Baseball. Again, our partnership with the league was to grow MYBL so that Legacy Elite could grow with them. At no point in the last year and a half did Legacy Elite become part of MYBL. These were and are two completely separate non-profit organizations. At no point did Legacy Elite receive any financial contributions from MYBL. Nor were there any commingling of funds at any time.
Legacy Elite Baseball always worked within the schedule confines of MYBL. MYBL was always priority and we filled in the gaps. When fields had no MYBL practices or games scheduled those are the times that we held our practices and games. There is a misconception out there that travel baseball was taking over MYBL. It is simply not true. We also gave up our scheduled field time when MYBL had to reschedule practices and games. Never did any of our teams take field or cage time away from any MYBL team.
All of this was public knowledge and talked about in open board meetings with MYBL. Our board members spent countless volunteer nights at the fields working with MYBL hand in hand. Our board is compromised of all volunteers, just like MYBL. The only people that are paid in our organization are our professional coaches, who must have a minimum of college baseball experience to coach with our organization.
In conclusion, there are many positive things that were happening with MYBL and Legacy Elite Baseball that many people don't understand and simply draw conclusions from people that do not focus their energy on the kids and are self serving or from Facebook. This is where we stand. Legacy Elite baseball will continue to thrive and will always be changing for the better, no matter what. With one focus in mind and that is FAMILY STRONG!
We say a big thank you to the board members of MYBL for all of the sacrifices that you have made in your lives to change the lives of the youth not only in Margate but all of the surrounding cities as well. We also say thank you for the opportunity to forge our partnership. The sky was the limit.
