One of my favorite things at our collegiate events is to speak to the student-athletes. Giving a brief history of how we started and who all we work with.

I love encouraging them to share their expertise with the visiting students and teaching skills. Giving them a chance to put down the competitive aspects and remembering what they love about playing their sport if even for a few hours.

Also planting the seed of philanthropy and giving back to a population of young people who will instantly love them. Doesn’t matter if they have a bad hair day or a pimple on their face, they will instantly have a new friend. And so often they connect with a child and hang out the whole day.

I have had so many very successful athletes and even coaches ask if they can volunteer with us more or are now considering a future career working with children with special needs.

I see the benefits of this heart filled work and love hearing how it impacts them too.
