Here at Competitive Swimmer, our passion is helping every swimmer become the strongest, healthiest, and most successful competitive swimmer possible. Welcome 🏊

Steve Friederang and Dr. Geoff Pilling started Tropical Penguin in 1994 as a software company that produced Cool Coach a comprehensive coaching program. Now we, as a company, are focused on two things: the products that we invent and sell, and our magazine. You can find both our products and a place to subscribe to our magazine on our website. We think swimming faster is fun!

Yes, my private sessions include neuroplasticity-based training. While the national average for improvement in older swimmers is about 1%, ours consistently exceeds 10%.

We have one of the most advanced dryland rooms anywhere — featuring four different brands of swim benches and thousands of exercises targeting everything from fingers to toes. Add to that underwater video from six angles and a focus on personal empowerment. My goal is to eventually coach myself out of a job 🙂

Currently, we’re working with swimmers from over 32 teams across six states — plus Zoom sessions reaching half the U.S. and several other countries. It’s very different from team coaching because my only focus is performance improvement.

I believe every team should have a coach who does what I get to do.

The swimmer in this photo is with me for five weeks, visiting from Hong Kong.

Have questions? Ask me anything — and if I don’t know the answer, I probably know someone who does.

Notice something missing? We just won our first gold medal in AAU history—but take a closer look. There’s still work to be done. Remind you a bit of our Paris men’s results? Maybe it’s time we double that individual gold tally. The USA has no excuse—we have more pools than most countries have swimmers. The problem isn’t our athletes. It’s a leadership void, where “performance improvement” doesn’t even make it into the mission statement. We dive deeper into this—and share practical, powerful solutions for rapid improvement—in the next issue of Competitive Swimmer Magazine. We’re wrapping up the meet with a smile and heading to the caves of Zlatibor tomorrow before the closing ceremonies. Stay tuned!

Samples of NP -- how to instruct and guide swimmers to become masters of neuroplasticity training. 05/26/2024

Hopefully this will give my friends and associates a better idea of what we are doing in training your brain through the far cheaper VR headsets. 5 Minutes with my content a couple times a day is literally as effective as some of my hour long private lessons. Her'e you will see some of both combined, but this might help me a lot with my Olympians and wanna be Olympians who have never met me but who hire me through Zoom. And all my swimmers swim on other teams, so giving them idea images and a focus on mastery one movement at a time is gong to be perfect. In our initial videos we are showing way too much to give all of you and some of them the idea of teaching your neuromuscular system the foundations and then the specifics of movement and body-line mastery. The little nine-year old dropped 9 seconds in her 100 breast once she fully grasped the rhythm of the stroke and how to do a really controlled pulldown. Literally looked like a different swimmer in just a couple hours of verbal and neural instruction. I'm really excited to be making these segments. Lots of work to do that you'll see in every issue of Competitive Swimmer Magazine: subscribe before the price goes up! www.Competitiveswimmermag.com.

Samples of NP -- how to instruct and guide swimmers to become masters of neuroplasticity training. So, May 25th, these are two of my early attempts of teaching swimmers to use Brain Training to improve their swim strokes. In this one we added some experim...

Steve Friederang
https://ca.pbslearningmedia.org/.../ull20.../unladylike2020/ Disney is releasing a full movie about Gertrude Ederle. The aobve ink is the PBS version which tells how revolutionary women in sports were at her time.

It's an amazing story and an amazing transition from holding women back and having men define their purpose and lives to some of the first steps in a better direction, just after the right to vote. My daughter has grown up fighting even more prejudice of age and gender, but stories like this have helped her overcome now and in the future. When RBG first came out we were first in line. Now, at 15 Eliza was prevented last semester from entering the teacher education program because the law says her background can't be checked until she's 18. This, in spite of her entering college on a full scholarship at 11 with a double major in biology and now English. So this movie is one more in a list of movies about how to do what people say is impossible. Gertrude Ederle and her parents who allowed her to train full time are heroes! Everyone should see this movie. Steve Friederang, Publisher, Competitive Swimmer and Popular Technology Magazines.
