Operating since 2004, we’ve been dedicated to providing high-quality Jujitsu training that emphasizes both skill development and personal growth. At our dojo, Jujitsu isn’t just about learning techniques—it’s about embracing a way of life. Our training program draws from over 1,000 years of Jujitsu history, blending ancient philosophies with modern teaching methods. LORD × LIONS STUDIO | EPISODE 001

Tomorrow we begin something I have been wanting to build for a long time.
After more than 40 years in martial arts, I’ve learned that technical ability and human development are not always the same thing. A belt can tell us something about what a person has accomplished, but pressure, responsibility and success eventually reveal something much deeper about the person carrying it.

Our first Lord × Lions Studio conversation begins with what is happening in Jiu Jitsu today and asks a question I believe matters far beyond the mat: What should Jiu Jitsu actually produce?

We’ll talk competition, the foundations of Judo, leadership, character, success, responsibility and ultimately what all of this work is supposed to produce in the man.

THE BELT DOES NOT MAKE THE MAN

🥋 Train hard. Pursue excellence. Earn the belt. But become capable of carrying what you achieve.

THE WARRIOR SAINTS

Another icon has arrived from Mount Athos for our dojo altar, depicting four ancient warrior saints - St. Demetrios, St. George, St. Prokopios and St. Artemios.

There is something here every martial artist can benefit. These men are not remembered simply because they were warriors (hence St.), but because they understood that strength, courage, loyalty and sacrifice must ultimately come under the government of God. As students of Jiu Jitsu and Bushido, we train many of these same qualities, but the greater lesson is learning how to govern ourselves and properly use what has been entrusted to us.

There is also the principle of lineage, we did not invent what we possess.
Someone carried it before us, preserved it and handed it to another generation. The Church has done the same for nearly 2,000 years, preserving the witness of those who came before us so that we might learn from it and faithfully carry it forward. 🛡

We will be placing a more detailed teaching at the dojo explaining each of these warrior saints, their history and why their witness still matters today, along with the blessing of an unbroken and steadfast truth that continues to shape what we practice on the mat and carry into life. This is part of the deeper teaching traditionally found within a true dojo and why our altar has its place here, keeping what we train, pursue and build aligned with the Spirit of Truth and the greater purpose of our short and long term goals.

“The true warrior is not known by the strength he possesses, but by the authority he places that strength beneath.” - Prof. Tommy Montoya Oss!!!

THE CIRCLE AND THE MAT ☯️

Students of GATX, every circle has a center. On the mat, yours is your base, breath, and judgment. When pressure comes, use your strength wisely, find the angle, trust your timing, and apply the energy the task requires.

Master Kano called this Seiryoku Zenyo—the efficient use of mind and body. The Greeks called excellence arete, ability brought toward its proper purpose.
Return to your center each round, and leave the mat more skillful, more disciplined, and ready to help your teammates rise with you.

See you Sunday @ 12pm, Oss!!!

TESTED IN THE ARENA

Congratulations to everyone who competed and represented Gracie Allegiance Texas at the 2026 IBJJF San Antonio Fall International Open.

We may not have finished first in the overall team standings, but our competitors earned multiple medals and podium finishes while continuing to demonstrate the progress being made inside our academy.

Competition is not only about winning. It is one of the places where training, preparation and rank are tested honestly under pressure. It reveals what is working, exposes what must improve and gives us a clearer direction for the work ahead.

This is part of our standard for progression. Rank should represent more than time served—it should reflect technical development, discipline, courage and the ability to apply what has been learned when the pressure is real.

Proud of everyone who entered the arena, grateful for those who coached and supported them, and encouraged by the continued growth of our team.

We represented, we were tested, we gained experience. Now we return to the mat and continue the work.

In Jiu Jitsu, common beliefs dictate that you have to win every competition to be the best. But be the best at what?

When you have a passion, put in the work, dedicate yourself to personal growth, and contribute to the art you respect and love, there is no higher level or display—win or lose. You win regardless when you prepare as best as you can, respect the process of progression, and honor Bushido and the dojo.

We still recognize Ray; although he lost on points, he showed up and loved the moment. This is what we appreciate about our community and our program at Gracie Allegiance Texas, brought to life through Lord X Lions, developing character, discipline, and, most importantly, JUDO—the gentle way. Kids/Teens In-house Tournament was a blast! Over 50 kids tested themselves against their teammates and other competitors within the Gracie Allegiance Texas affiliation in preparation for upcoming tournaments!

We’re so proud of your kids! We’re so honored to be a part of their growth and journey. We’re excited for the upcoming competitions!

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has so many benefits for kids and competition amplifies those benefits.

Our Lineage is rich with competition from Grandmaster Carley Gracie, to his son and World Champion Professor Clark Gracie, to the head of Gracie Allegiance Texas and World Champion Professor Tommy Montoya, and our Kids Program Director Devin Singer.

We know the benefits of competition and experienced the ride ourselves with hundreds of competitions among our coaching staff. We love being able to mentor kids through this tough and rewarding journey!

Thank you to Professor Hunter Cargill and Telos for being a part of this amazing event!

Professor Devin sent out the full set of pictures to team parents through Remind 😎
