Oso Beach Golf Course

Loaded up and rolling out. Not much beats a full afternoon ahead and someone good in the next seat over. That's an easy day at Oso Beach.

We started a list and got about four in before it turned into an argument. Go ahead and settle it for us.

Caught the good light out here. When the sun drops low and the course starts to clear out, a twilight round at Oso Beach is hard to beat. Come chase one this week.

Week 18 of Tuesday Night Shootout is in the books, and a couple of young guns finally caught the elusive 7 under par.

Fourteen teams came out to our sister property, Lozano Golf Center in Corpus Christi, for a traditional scramble, two closest to the pin contests, and the weekly skins game. Light wind, plenty of good scores, and a 4-way tie at 34 for third.

Closest to the Pin: William Wright ( #7), Riley Riethman ( #4)

3rd Place, 34: Zach Branam & Riley Riethman, winners of a 4-way tie

2nd Place, 33: Nico Trujillo & John Ortiz, first time in the winners circle with three birdies

1st Place: Gabriel Leal & Josh Casteneda, five birdies and an eagle to crack 30 and the youngest TNS champs in Lozano Golf Center history

Skins, $120: Nick Donner & Luis Rodriguez, birdies on #4 and #9, $80. Gabriel Leal & Josh Casteneda, eagle on #7, $40

Twenty teams, wind that would not quit, and a modified alternate shot format. One score came in under par all night.

Week 17 of the Tuesday Night Shootout is in the books, with a $240 winner's purse and $120 in skins on the line.

Riley Reithman and Owen Huntington took first with a 33. Riley has been smoking hot for the last month and a half, and this win ties him with William Wright for the most 2026 regular season wins. New partner, same result.

Richard Mauch and Paul Arriaga grabbed second at 39, in the most cinematic way possible. I was already mid-announcement on closest to the pin. "Mauch? I got a Richard Mauch in here?" Silence. Then in he walks, proximity marker in hand, scorecard reading 39. One quick tiebreaker later, second place was his.

William Wright and Chris Killian rounded out the podium, also at 39. Tough conditions, tougher competition.

Closest to the pin went to David Garza Jr. on 13 and Richard Mauch on 15. Both walked off with Blue Heron logo hats for bringing their precision out to Lozano.

Skins: Riley and Owen (birdies on 13 and 15), Ryan Modglin and Luke Wilcox (birdie on 14), Mike Wrigley and David Wells (eagle on 17).

Week 18 we're back to a scramble. Beverage special will be waiting. Who's coming out?

A quiet walk up the fairway, no rush, nobody waiting on the tee behind you. Some afternoons at Oso Beach are just about getting out there and playing your own pace.

Proof that the best plans usually involve 18 holes and a little sunshine.
