✨ Exciting Facility Upgrade Alert! ✨

We’re gearing up for a major refresh to keep our spaces looking great and performing even better for YOU! From September 21–25, we’ll kick off our annual Closure Week as we begin a full resurfacing project for the Gymnasium, Racquetball Court, and Canyon Meeting Room floors.

🏀 What to Expect
• Gymnasium: Closed for approximately 3 weeks
• Canyon Meeting Room & Racquetball Court: Closed for 5-7 days within the three-week gymnasium closure time, dates TBD
• The first week will be our sanding and prep week—aka “Closure Week”—so crews can get the bulk of the hard work done safely and efficiently.
• Silver Sneakers and The Groove will be cancelled for 3 weeks.
• No open pickleball for 3 weeks
• Spin, Core Fit, Yoga, Spin Circuit, Zumba, Yin Yang Yoga, Cardio Drumming, Pilates and Zumba + Lift will be closed for 1 week, dates TBD.

Irrigation and sprinklers will be running in the parks until approximately 12:01 PM today. Our team replaced a key component of the irrigation control software this morning, and the system needs to run through a full cycle before we can reprogram it.

Once that cycle finishes, we’ll restore all zones to their usual watering schedule of 9:00 PM–10:00 AM.

The Harkendorff Tennis Courts at the Cortez Recreation Center are officially open again with new surfacing, new nets, and a replaced wind screen! A new hitting wall will be installed in the next few weeks, too. We’re excited to bring this much needed update to the Cortez tennis community.

This project is part of our larger effort to address deferred maintenance across the City Parks system. Resources are limited, so we’re tackling projects based on the most urgent needs. Some challenges will take time and significant funding to resolve, but we’re committed to making steady progress.

Later this fall, the Cortez Parks and Recreation Department will launch a yearlong Parks and Recreation Master Plan process. This plan will help shape the next 10 years of improvements, priorities, and investments. Community input will be essential—your voice will help us understand what matters most and how to support it moving forward.
