Emmy Tracks

I’ve always said the guys who hunt public are a different breed and I don’t mean that in a bad way towards guys that don’t. What I mean is this track here we had to walk in over a mile to get to where the deer was even shot at. There was literally a few tuffs of hair and a few drops of blood at the hit sight. The deer only went about 300 yards but the last 100 Emmy was on a dead sprint as she cld smell em. No blood at all just hoof and the air. Made believers outa the outa staters from New York. Was a great day as Emmy went 2 for 2 on this day with another track before this.

By looking at the hole in this deer you woulda thought that it would have went down in sight. But heck no!! They are such a tough animal especially the closer it gets to rut. This deer went almost a mile and we found him laying in the field after crossing the road. Going through 3 or 4 thickets and hardly any blood the entire time on an unusually hot day 24 hours after the shot and after the deer was kicked up. Was a great track and one happy hunter.

Another great track from last year. This deer made it around the 450 yard mark with not a single drop of blood. First 250 yards was threw and open field which was tough then the last 200 yards was was on a very dry logging road in the timber. We had one restart but when Emmy stood on her hind legs with that nose in the air I knew we were close.

Here was a fun one from last year. One of the biggest 6 points I’ve seen. Shot night before tracked him 400 yards with several guys. Backed out. Emmy and I showed up next morning she got right on the trail right away then you cld tell she struggled were the guys started grid searching. She kept wanting to cross this creek back n forth and low and behold there he was about 250 yards laying still alive but not able to get up. No blood what’s so ever. Gut and liver hit. But great track by Emmy.

This track was a great one. Kinda went against the odds but got the call in the am buck was hit. Lots of blood but he wasnt sure about the hit totally and there was a major rain storm coming. So we went in there about 4 hours after the shot got on him lots of blood in the beginning then nothing. Several hundred yards later Emmy starts running and boom there he is laying in a thicket. Gets up and walks of at a slow pace. We sat back for 45 minutes and waited as it was starting to rain then Emmy and I went on with the track and another 250 yards with nothing on the ground found the deer laying in his bed. One happy hunter and a great track. The buck ended up being gut shot liver hit which normally we wait 16-24 hours on but it all ended well

As it’s getting closer to the season I would like to start getting in the spirit and sharing some of my favorite tracks over the years. This was a public land buck and the biggest we have found to date. A 190 inch stud. Southern part of Ohio. Gut shot deer was shot at 8 in the morning. They waited and tracked him that afternoon and kicked him up laying in the creek almost a mile from the shot. We got the call the next day and got there about 10am the following morning so 26 hours after the shot.
I had the hunter take me to the shot. Emmy got on the track and took us to the creek crossing to where they kicked the buck up. After that I could tell she was struggling alittle as this was her first year and was not used to the creek crossing scene.
Long story short she went straight up this steep hill and I thought no way. We get to the top and she starts on a string getting faster which is telling me she smells him. Nose in the ground but no blood. Long story short she takes me right to him laying in his final bed. In all the track was almost 3 miles. And we found the deer at 4 in the afternoon the following day and he was still warm inside. The look on the hunters face when he found him is a look I will never forget and is why I love doing this. One I will definitely never forget.
