We use seat belts in our cars to increase safety. What is best to use on the slopes? Here is my list:
1) Helmet – approx 90% of fatal skiing head injuries would have not been fatal with a helmet.
2) Add ICE to your cell phone Contacts, and carry it on the slopes – In Case of Emergency (ICE) is where Emergency Medical techs will seek to locate your loved ones. If you get stranded on the slopes, you can call for help too.
3) Carry photocopies of your Drivers License and Insurance Card for easy identification and knowledge of coverage. Adding an “emergency $20” to this helps when you want some food and forgot your wallet.
4) Padding for your upper and lower body. All the pros wear padding while training to minimize injuries. I started wearing a shirt made for skiing with padding about 3 years ago, and it has prevented injuries on some bad falls on old injuries. Safety equipment is worth its’ weight in gold!

Mammoth Ski Club parking tip during Christmas and New Years' vacation - When parking on Minaret, rather than parking where the cars end, park at one of the bus stops lettered A - ? that start past the inner-tubing area. This way you don't have to walk to the bus stop in your boots to get to the slopes. And you'll load the bus before the more crowded bus stops closer to Main Lodge, giving you your choice of seat. And you will get dropped off by the bus later right near your car, saving the walk back to the car. Getting there early is always preferred. But if you arrive later, park near the bus stops and make your day easier! What's your best Mammoth ski tip?

Sound advice!
With the truly incredible amount of snowfall we’ve received the last month or so, the stoke to get out and ride is at an all-time high. Conditions are prime right now with another foot+ of fresh snow, but with increased snowfall always comes increased risk. Ski patrol’s focus is to keep our guests and employees safe in these conditions. Closures, including rope lines with closed discs and closed signs, are always set for the safety of everyone on hill. When someone ducks a rope line or breaks a closure, it puts everyone in the area at immediate risk. Fresh tracks are never worth endangering the lives of fellow skiers and Mammoth Mountain employees. Be safe, have fun and please respect the work that’s being done to keep all of us safe.
