Well it was an early and COLD start to the day. It reminded me of growing up hunting in Pennsylvania, it’s been awhile since I’ve hunted in the cold like that! Unfortunately I had no luck today but will try again tomorrow!

I often get to see a lot of pretty neat things at work but rarely have time to get a picture. This is one of the cooler things I’ve seen. That’s a hawks nest in the top of the big tree and that is the mama hawk sitting in it watching me work down in the pond!
*yes I know it’s not the most clear picture but it’s still neat!*

Haven’t seen this buck since last year. I thought maybe he got killed by someone else. Tonight he showed back up on camera. I’m excited to see him back in the area! Now here’s to hoping he slips up when I’m in the stand!

*long post warning*
Well it was an eventful evening to say the least. I got to the hunt spot at around 4:00, I went to put on my boots and evidently they were still soaked from the rain the other day. So I had to roll with the work boots, which I spilled diesel fuel on today at work. I took a chance and sprayed ‘em down real good with some nose jammer. I finally made it into my stand at around 4:30 pm. After getting comfortable all of a sudden I heard something “break” and a loud thud. Sure enough my bow hanger broke and my crossbow (yes, I was using my crossbow today because I forgot to bring the compound with me to work) fell to the ground. it got hung on the pull up rope as it fell and some of the rope got wrapped up in some branches so it didn’t hit the ground at “full force”. I sat there for a minute and contemplated just calling it a day, I figured it was broke. I made the climb down and inspected it, nothing broke. I thought to myself that the scope would be off but decided to push my luck anyhow because it’s not likely I’d get to go out again for a good while. After I climbed back up, I had a button head come in and eat for awhile. After he left I had this doe come in. She was there a good while and wouldn’t give me a good shot. She finally, out of nowhere looked straight up and busted me. Started stomping and went to run off. She stopped after she ran 5 yards and gave me a perfect broadside shot. I took the shot and I guess it’s luck or whatever you want to call it but it sliced her throat. Obviously the scope was off after the fall because I was holding right over the boiler room. Either way she only ran 20 yards and fell over. It was quite the evening, but nothing better than putting meat in the freezer!! Now to get it sighted back in.
