Coxsackie-Athens Girls Varsity Soccer Game Summary — 9/18/26

The Riverhawks traveled to Waterford-Halfmoon to take on the Fordians, a former State Championship team. It was a very fast-paced game, with both teams moving the ball well. The Riverhawks took a little longer to adjust to the turf and find their feet, while the Fordians adjusted quickly and were able to score four goals in the first half.

Going into the second half, the Riverhawks did a much better job of maintaining possession and moving the ball up the field. We had several great looks on offense, followed by shots on goal. We were also awarded a penalty kick, and Camerin Taylor calmly found the back of the net to put the Riverhawks on the scoreboard. The final score was 5-1.

Defensively, the Riverhawks did an outstanding job holding their line and creating several offsides calls. Emily Brady had some great run-downs and strong goal kicks. Anna Purdy did a great job controlling the field and helping direct play. Madi-Jo DeRose came up with some amazing saves to keep the Riverhawks in the game.

Most importantly, the Riverhawks continued to stay together and compete as a team. Every game brings improvement, and this team continues to grow, learn, and work together. We are looking forward to the next opportunity to get back on the field!

CAFB Recap vs Fonda

Your Riverhawks took to Stadium Field to take on the Fonda-Fultonville Valley Hawks. On a crisp night, the varsity team brought a lot of heart to the game but fell to the Valley Hawks 34-0. It was a tough and physical game where everything was left on the field.

The Riverhawks went in with a game plan to attack the perimeter of the Fonda defense to mitigate their size advantage on the line of scrimmage. Some bright spots on offense were Junior WR/FS Aiden Bannen with two catches for 34 yards. Junior QB and Captain led the offense going 7/12 for 72 yards.

On the defensive side, the biggest play was an interception and run back by Junior DB/WR Graidyn Miller, playing through an injury, and adding a tackle. Junior RB/LB Dontrez Smith led the team in tackles with 7, to go along with two rushes for 17 yards. Senior DE Corday Robinson was right behind him with 6 tackles. Hoffman and Junior DT/OL Sha-Rone Jenkins each having 5. The CA Riverhawks host the Greenwich Witches on 9/25/2026 for homecoming.

9/18/26 JV Boys Soccer Game Recap

The Riverhawks enjoyed a beautiful afternoon for their first home game vs Maple Hill.

The Riverhawks came out playing well right away. They controlled possession and handled the Wildcat attack.
Both teams settled in playing back and forth possession and organized defense. Maple Hill broke through in the 26th minute when a well placed toe poke squeaked past the C-A keeper.

Halftime score- C-A- 0 Maple Hill- 1

The 2nd half was the same as the 1st with good defending and promising counter attacks from both teams.
Maple Hill scored again in the 55th minute when a loose ball in the box glanced off a MH player into the C-A goal.

The Riverhawks outshot the Wildcats 11-7 but couldn't get past the Wildcat keeper.

Final score- C-A- 0 Maple Hill- 2

Next for the Riverhawks is a Tuesday 9/22 4:30pm HOME GAME vs Chatham HS.

🏐 LADY RIVERHAWKS RISE TO THE OCCASION! 🏐

The Lady Riverhawks came into tonight’s match determined to respond—and they did exactly that.

After a difficult stretch, C-A came together as a team and delivered a complete three-set performance, sweeping Chatham 3-0. This wasn't just a win on the scoreboard. It was a night that showed what determination, communication, and believing in one another can accomplish.

From the opening serve, the Riverhawks played with purpose. The C-A offense produced 22 kills, led by Tessa Coleman with 9 kills, while Kensie Moore added 3 kills and ran the offense with 16 assists. Kierra Smith contributed 3 kills of her own, and Isabella Phillips added 2.

Behind that offense was a defense that refused to give up.

Gracie Styga led the team with 11 digs, while Lexi Haas recorded 6, Bella Phillips added 5, and Kensie Moore contributed 4. The Riverhawks continually turned defensive plays into opportunities to score.

C-A put tremendous pressure on Chatham with 22 service aces, including 6 each from Kensie Moore and Kierra Smith, 3 from Lexi Haas, and 3 from Tessa Coleman.

The Lady Riverhawks fought for one another, trusted one another, and stayed determined when points became difficult. Players stepped up when their team needed them, teammates encouraged each other, and C-A played with the kind of energy and togetherness that can change the direction of a season.

Tonight, the Riverhawks showed what happens when determination becomes a team effort. 💙🏐

Congratulations, Lady Riverhawks! Keep building. Keep believing. Keep fighting for each other.

The Coxsackie-Athens Girls Modified Volleyball team got off to a strong start Thursday with a three-set sweep over Maple Hill!

The Riverhawks took Set 1, 25-12, followed by a 25-20 victory in Set 2 and a 25-17 win in Set 3.

Strong serving from everyone helped fuel the Riverhawks! Angeline Harford had 16 serves with 4 aces, Sophia served 16 serves with 8 aces and Kelsey Brandow served 13 serves with 7 aces leading the way to the team totaling an impressive 21 aces!

Offensively, contributions came from across the court. Arrow Apotas-Pontius, Kelsey Brandow, and Sophia Marino made their presence felt at the net with several strong hits.

Defense was also on full display, with the back row keeping the ball alive and giving the setters opportunities to run the offense. Lilly Smith, Summer Vizzi, and Arrow Apotas-Pontius were active defensively, recording several digs and helping keep the momentum going.

The ladies are off to a great start and will look to keep it rolling Monday against Watervliet before hosting their first home game Wednesday against Catskill.

Riverhawks Give Maple Hill All It Can Handle in 1-0 Battle

COXSACKIE — The final score may have read 1-0, but there was little separating Coxsackie-Athens and perennial powerhouse Maple Hill on the field Friday night.

The Riverhawks came into the contest looking to respond after falling to the Wildcats earlier in the week, and they did exactly that, turning in an intense, hard-fought performance against one of the area’s perennial contenders.

Maple Hill would eventually come away with the victory, with Max Miller scoring the lone goal of the contest in the second half. But the Riverhawks made the Wildcats earn every inch of the result.

Coxsackie-Athens had one of its best opportunities of the opening half when Ben Hoglund created space and fired a dangerous shot toward the Maple Hill goal. Wildcats goalkeeper Josh Riekert was able to get a hand to the attempt and poke it away, keeping the game scoreless.

While Maple Hill generated more opportunities throughout the night, the Riverhawks repeatedly battled back and refused to allow the Wildcats to turn their pressure into a comfortable advantage.

Senior goalkeeper Jacob Grounds was a major reason the Riverhawks remained within striking distance. Grounds turned in an outstanding performance in net, recording 14 saves and repeatedly coming up with big stops to keep Coxsackie-Athens in the game.

Maple Hill finished with a 10-3 advantage in shots and held a narrow 3-2 edge in corner kicks, but the statistics don't fully capture the intensity of the contest. The Riverhawks defended with determination, battled for loose balls and continued to challenge Maple Hill until the final whistle.

For Coxsackie-Athens, the most important takeaway may have been the response.

After being beaten by the Wildcats earlier in the week, the young Riverhawks came back ready to compete and gave Maple Hill a game that required its full effort to close out. The result wasn't what Coxsackie-Athens wanted, but the performance showed a team continuing to grow, compete and learn how to play together.

It was a fantastic battle from start to finish, and a performance the young Riverhawks can build on as the season continues.

Coxsackie-Athens Varsity Field Hockey earned its first win of the season on the road today at Pine Plains!

Every single player on the team did their job and contributed to the win. CA took the lead in the first quarter when defender Leah Walker broke away and found the back of the cage to put the team up 1–0.

From there, the team worked together to hold Pine Plains scoreless for the remainder of the game. Rylynn Handlowich recorded 4 saves in goal to secure the shutout.

A huge shoutout to our defensive unit — Nicole Multari, Avery Shutter, Leah Walker, Valentina Multari, along with guest defenders Rylee Gardner and Kendall Frisbee — for stepping up and doing an outstanding job protecting our end of the field.

This team showed so much heart today. They played for each other, came together as a team, and earned this win together. So proud of this group and excited to see their hard work pay off!

The boys remain undefeated, while the girls have also turned in outstanding performances. Although the girls currently don’t have enough runners to officially score as a team, their individual finishes would have earned team victories in every meet so far.

Great start to the season for both squads — keep it rolling!

JV Girls Volleyball Sweeps Maple Hill at Home
JV Girls Volleyball vs. Maple Hill
September 16th

The Lady Riverhawks came away with another win last night, taking the match in two sets, 25-16 and 25-22.
The Riverhawks established themselves early in Set 1, using strong serving and a balanced attack to pull away for a 25-16 win. Set 2 brought a much tighter battle, but the girls stayed composed down the stretch and closed out the match with a 25-22 victory.

Serving continued to be a major strength, with the Riverhawks finishing with 14 team aces and an 89.8% serving percentage. Addie Ross and Maddie Swartout led the way with 4 aces each, while Emma Slater, Taysia Alexander and Aracelis Colon added 2 apiece.

The offense was spread across the court with 13 team kills. Emma Slater led with 4 kills, Hudson Meier added 3, and Aracelis contributed 2. Olivia Conrad, Addie Ross, Taysia Alexander and Jocelynn Bolduc each recorded a kill. The Riverhawks also finished with 12 assists, including 11 from Setter, Olivia Conrad.

On defense, the team recorded 10 digs, led by Emma Slater with 4. Annabelle Deyo and Olivia Conrad each added 2 digs, while Taysia Alexander and Fiona Lynch contributed one apiece.

A strong first set followed by a hard-fought second gave the Riverhawks another opportunity to show their ability to stay composed, compete through a close set, and finish the match when it mattered.

The Riverhawks end their week with a home match Friday, September 18th against Chatham.
