Conor McGregor is known for confidence.

Most people stop there.

But if you look closer…
it’s not confidence that made him.

It’s belief.
It’s repetition.
It’s preparation.
It’s work most people don’t see.

Confidence is just the result.

That’s the part people misunderstand.

They wait to feel confident…
instead of doing the things that create it.

Under pressure, nothing new shows up.

You fall back on what you’ve built.

Or what you haven’t.

That’s why belief comes first.
Why words matter.
Why preparation matters.
Why consistency matters.

Not just in fighting.

In anything.

Most self-defense starts too late.

People want the stance.
The technique.
The perfect move.

But real pressure doesn’t care how good your form looks.

Before you “fight back,” you have to control the one thing panic tries to steal first:

Your breath.

Then you move.

Not into a pretty stance.
Not into a memorized pose.
But into freedom.

Create space.
Break the grip.
Get your balance.
Disrupt their rhythm.

Then, if you have to fight, you fight with everything available — movement, strikes, takedowns, timing, and intent.

That’s why our principle has always been simple:

Breathe. Move. Fight.

Seven years ago. Same lesson today.

Real self-defense isn’t about looking tough.
It’s about staying aware enough to survive chaos.

Some kids don’t lack discipline.

They have energy without direction.
Confidence without control.
Power without a place to practice it.

That’s where martial arts can make a real difference.

Not by forcing kids to stand still and act perfect…
but by giving them challenges, structure, movement, and a safe place to learn how to control themselves.

Because focus isn’t something kids magically “have.”

It’s something they practice.

May the 4th be with you… and with every parent who has said, “Please stop jumping on the couch.” 😂

At The System Martial Arts & Fitness in Cranston, RI, we help kids turn energy into skill, focus, and real confidence.

This was taken years ago. Just having fun throwing some relaxed punches on the bag. True power comes from a relaxed state

Jackie Chan never separated the art from the work.

He didn’t just perform movement…
he lived it.

Every fall.
Every miss.
Every repetition.

He chose to do his own stunts—not for attention,
but because the experience mattered.

Because you don’t understand movement
until you’ve felt it.

You don’t understand timing
until you’ve been late.

You don’t understand control
until you’ve lost it.

That’s what martial arts is at its core.

Not perfection.
Not performance.

But participation.

Being in it.
Learning through it.
Refining through it.

Over and over again.

There’s something honest about that.

Can your 7 year old do this ? Most kids can throw a front kick.
Some can throw a roundhouse.

But very few can connect them… under movement, timing, and pressure.

That’s where things change.

This simple 2-kick combination isn’t about “doing more techniques.”
It’s about learning how to link movement, balance, and decision-making together.

Because in real life (and even in sparring)…
nothing happens one move at a time.

At our school in Cranston, we focus on helping kids:
• Transition between movements smoothly
• Stay balanced while thinking
• Adapt instead of freezing

That’s how skill turns into confidence you can actually see.

Most programs stop at “they learned the kick.”
We go further… we teach them how to use it.

Cobra Kai was the villain.

That’s how most people remember it.

Too aggressive.
Too intense.
Too focused on winning.

But here’s the part most people miss…

There were lessons there.

Discipline.
Facing fear.
Being pushed beyond comfort.
Learning how to handle pressure.

The problem wasn’t the training.

It was the lack of balance.

Because on the other side, we’ve also seen what happens when training becomes too soft…
Too protective…
Too focused on feeling good instead of getting better.

Real growth lives somewhere in the middle.

Where kids are challenged — but guided.
Pushed — but supported.
Taught how to face discomfort — not avoid it.

That’s where confidence is actually built.

Not from being told you’re strong…
But from proving it to yourself.

There’s something to learn from both sides.

The key is knowing how to apply it the right way. Most programs pick a side.

We build the bridge.

The moment a child hits the ground, most freeze.
Not because they’re weak. Because no one ever taught them what to do next.
That’s what this drill is about.
One kid on the floor. Two others trying to keep him there.
His job? Escape. Read the movement. Turn the situation around.
No yelling. No counting reps. Just real problem-solving under real pressure.
This is what confidence actually looks like — not a belt, not a trophy. A kid who knows what to do when things go sideways.

04/15/2026

What happens to a kid who’s never learned to handle pressure?

Most people fold under pressure. We train kids to thrive in it.

Every kid in this drill has one goal — and three opponents trying to stop them.

No coach telling them what to do.

No perfect technique required.

Just problem-solving, pressure, and figuring it out in real time.

This is where real confidence is built.
Not from getting it right.

From not quitting when it gets hard.
Most activities protect kids from resistance.

We introduce it — safely, in a game — so they learn what they’re made of.
That’s the difference between a kid who freezes and a kid who figures it out.
