X-cel Sports & X-cel Selects GIVES BACK

I am headed across country to North Dakota November 7-8 to lace up my skates & play in the 24 Hour Hockey Marathon by Livfree

The 24 Hour Hockey Marathon brings the hockey community together to raise money in an effort to BEAT Pediatric Cancer on & off the ice. Livfree’s mission is to give families affected by this disease moments of joy & the 24 Hour Hockey Marathon is leading the charge!

The Hockey Community is unique & special because we ALL share in the love & passion for our sport together, & this event shows that. Coach J played in the 24 Hour Hockey Marathon in Boston earlier this July. The hockey community raised over $150,000 towards the cause, & Coach J raised over $1,200 personally!

As the Founder of X-cel Sports, I try to show passion & drive to IMPACT each player, family, & the sport as a whole everytime on the ice. For me, this event is EVEN BIGGER…It is a way for me & our organization to GIVE BACK because hockey gives us so much…

HEAVY D-work with Nicky

We’ve been working with Nicky for a few months now to elevate his game to the next level. Nicky is a Defenseman with a heavy shot who came to us looking to become MORE CREATIVE on the blue line & create more opportunities with the puck in the offensive zone. When we started to work together he said he wanted to be “more of the Quarterback” in the zone & use his shot more, & feel “quicker to loose pucks”

The work begun…
The GROWTH in Nicky’s game has been fun to watch…

Nicky is incredibly hard on himself & A HUGE part of working with him has been the mental side of training & in building GOOD, CONSISTENT, & CLEAN reps. Defensemen require MANY reps to build a true tool set & instinctual skills.

Our focuses with Nicky have been 👇

🏒 Pulling pucks ofc the boards with our chest to the middle of the ice

🏒Transitions & defensive edge work that correlates to moving the puck, recovering with a puck, skating the blue line, & taking ice towards the net to shoot for a tip or beat the goalie

🏒 Using space at the top of the zone to create offensive, set up plays, or create opportunities to shoot

Nicky is a 2010 Defenseman & plays for North Branford High School in CT. His goal is to play Junior Hockey

It has been an awesome opportunity to work with him so far, and we are excited to see him grow & become an even more dynamic weapon at the Point 💪

📍Champions Skating Center Cromwell, CT

Shots from our Training Session with Nicky, Matthew, & Evan

🏒Our focus was on puck protection & making plays in the corners, opening up opportunities with our skating at the blue line, & puck control to open up the zone

‼️Nicky & Evan will be RETURNING to the ice TOGETHER to train with us TOMORROW Friday July 17

OUR PLAN FOR TOMORROW 👇

🏒Working with Evan on moving the puck in tight areas against pressure & skating “low to high” after establishing the zone/ crossing the blue line

Nicky will be moving the puck off the side boards on the blue line & choosing to beat the first defensive player OR feed Evan on the sideboards. We’re focusing on MAKING A GOOD READ here as a D-man using the top of the zone

Evan will work on shooting off a pass from high to low, & Nicky will be taking passes or picking up a puck & shooting for a blade in front (Evan as the active screen)

Back on April 29 We worked with Nicky, Matthew, & Evan at Champions Skating Center where we focused on:

🏒Transitional Skating
🏒puck control
🏒puck protection
🏒Shooting In-Stride

This was a high paced & intense skate… the boys showed up & PUT THE WORK IN 💪

Our focuses for Nicky, a Defensemen, were on pulling pucks into the body while skating the blue line while shooting. (allowing for quicker & better opportunities off of passes or skating off the point/side boards towards the middle of the ice) Nicky focused on pivoting out of a tight turn towards the middle of the ice enabling him to BUILD DECEPTION on the blue line where he can choose to shoot, pass, or continue using the top of the zone to make a play.

Our focuses for Matthew & Evan who are Forwards, were on using their edges while turning with a puck to create separation, maintain speed, & set up their next decision or pass… & avoiding pressure in the corners against a defenseman by using their skating & positioning their hands with a puck properly (away from pressure) to create separation & be EXPLOSIVE skating “up the boards” out of the corner.

These are just a FEW principles we preach at X-cel Sports & skills we develop in players we train.

If you are a Defenseman looking to become more deadly in the middle of the ice & create more options with the puck on the blue line, or you’re a Forward looking to command the corners with the puck & set up the play, create more scoring chances, & open up the offensive zone…

On April 17 We had the pleasure of working with nicky_konesky2 up in Connecticut at Champions Skating Center 📌

Nicky is a big, strong Defenseman looking to take his game to the next level & his goal is play Juniors 🏒

X-cel Sports Lead Trainer Justin Greene & Assistant Trainer worked with Nicky 1 on 1 & dug right into building strong edges, puck pickups, blue line play, & shooting

Nicky is an extremely hardworking, driven, & poised young man & hockey player. We JUST began working with him & we are so excited to see him blossom on the ice & become the standout, dynamic, & impact defenseman on the ice he wants to be at the next level 💪
